Reactions of rhodium trifluoroacetate with triphenylphosphine and pyridine. Molecular structure of Rh2(O2CCF3)4(py)4

1993

Abstract Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 reacts with two mol of triphenylphosphine forming the adduct Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 (PPh 3 ) 2 . This compound in solution, even at room temperature, undergoes slow stepwise orthometalation of the phosphine ligands forming the doubly metalated compound Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 2 [(C 6 H 4 )P(C 6 H 5 ) 2 ] 2 . This reaction has been monitored by 31 P NMR spectroscopy detecting in solution three reaction intermediates. Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 reacts with excess of pyridine to form the compound Rh 2 (O 2 CCF 3 ) 4 (py) 4 that can be structurally classified as a class III adduct. It contains two bridging and two monodentate equatorial carboxylates and two equatorial and two axial…

Efficiency range of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction to induce the self-organization of transient bonds in metallo-supramolecular polymeric systems.

2020

The periodic change of the oxidation state of the metal catalyst in the oscillating Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction has been reported to establish a periodic organization of metallo-supramolecular bonds in polymeric systems, which results in autonomous viscosity oscillations. To appraise the possible extent of quantitative control on the viscosity oscillation features, we assess how the kinetics of the BZ reaction affects the periodic self-organization of the metal-ligand coordination, and vice versa. Our model system includes mono-, bis-, and tetra-functional polyethyleneglycol (PEG) precursors end grafted with terpyridine ligands that are complexed with ruthenium ions, which oscillate …

Furostanol saponins and ecdysones with cytotoxic activity from Helleborus bocconei ssp. intermedius

2009

Two furostanol saponins helleboroside A (1) and helleboroside B (2) were isolated from the methanol extract of Helleborus bocconei Ten. subsp. intermedius (Guss.) Greuter and Burdet, along with the furospirostanol saponin 4 and two ecdysones: ecdysterone (5) and polypodyne B (6). Compound 2 was enzymatically hydrolysed to give product 3. The biological activity of all compounds was tested against rat C6 glioma cells showing a significant cytotoxicity for compounds 3, 4 and 6. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Market risk disclosure in banking: an empirical analysis on four global systemically important European banks

2017

Market risk reporting in banking has assumed such importance during the last decade. The purpose of this paper is to provide a methodology to evaluate the qualitative and quantitative profiles of the market risk disclosure in banking. We propose a hybrid methodology to assess whether or not banks are able to provide a satisfactory degree of information about the market risks they are exposed to. In this paper, we conduct an empirical research of market risk disclosure on a sample of four global systemically important European banks. The paper provides evidences that banks differ in their market risk reporting models, even though they are subject to similar regulatory requirements and accoun…

Is the leadership of the Brent-WTI threatened by China's new crude oil futures market?

2020

Abstract The recent listing of a new crude oil futures contract on the Shanghai International Energy Exchange (INE) has reopened the debate over whether crude oil produced in different countries or locations constitutes a unified world oil market. The aim of this paper is to study the information flows among Brent, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) and the new Medium Sour Crude Oil (SC) futures contract listed on INE futures markets to assess whether the trading of this new futures contract has altered the dominant role of the most traded oil benchmarks in the world. A multiple regression model identifies the Brent futures market as the most influential market in the oil price discovery process…

How to measure bank credit risk disclosure? Testing a new methodological approach based on the content analysis framework

2020

AbstractRisk disclosure is a crucial factor in enhancing the efficiency of financial markets and promoting financial stability. This paper proposes a methodological tool to analyze credit risk disclosure in bank financial reports, based on the content analysis framework. The authors also uses this methodology to carry out an empirical study on a small sample of large Italian banks. The paper provides preliminary empirical evidence that banks differ in their credit risk disclosure, even though they are subject to homogeneous regulatory and accounting requirements. Furthermore, by carrying out a correlation-based network analysis, the paper provides preliminary evidence on the existence of a …

Credit derivatives disclosure in banks’ risk reporting: Empirical evidence from four large European banks

2019

This paper aims to analyze the derivatives disclosure in banks’ annual risk reports. In this paper, the author uses content analysis to examine the qualitative and quantitative profiles of the derivatives disclosure at a cross-country level, with particular reference to credit derivatives. The empirical research is conducted on a sample of large European banks. The paper also shows that there is room to improve various aspects of derivatives disclosure, and provides some useful insights for further research. The derivatives disclosure in banks’ annual risk reports has deep managerial, financial, regulatory and accounting implications at a firm and industry levels, and the comprehension of t…

Saving banks and society: a model of commitment to society

2012

Savings banks are increasingly interested in social issues, reflecting a corporate commitment to meet the demands of society. Our goal is to understand the importance of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) for savings banks and the actions carried out to promote it. To do this we assume that these entities are more resources devoted to society. The field work was conducted through a questionnaire answered by 57 Spanish institutions. We note that CSR is a growing movement with enormous potential, because of the role of financial intermediation and lending banks to develop. Finally, it is curious to see how social contributions materialize so correlated. Las Cajas de Ahorros tienen cada vez…

The Role of Capital and Liquidity in Bank Lending: Are Banks Safer?

2020

The aim of this paper is to examine whether and to what extent bank capital requirements and liquidity standards influence the level of bank stability. Our approach is that both capital and liquidity affect lending growth, which in turn affects bank stability. We construct a panel dataset on a sample of 2,054 commercial banks from 117 developed and developing countries during the 2000–16 period. By applying a two-stage least squares (2SLS) empirical methodology, our findings show that capital and liquidity have a negative direct impact on the level of bank stability. However, this influence is counteracted by an indirect positive effect through the increased level of credit. Our results are…
