Grazie all'analisi del rapporto tra il testo delle descrizioni di Filostrato e quello di Seneca tragico, Ovidio e Stazio si ipotizza la presenza nelle Imagines di allusioni ad opere ellenistiche perdute (si fa riferimento a Callimaco e Nicandro) . Inoltre, sulla base di un parallelismo tra II 4 (Ippolito) e un verso delle Rane di Aristofane si rintraccia una citazione dell'Ippolito Velato euripideo. L’articolo riprende in esame una testimonianza piuttosto problematica di Duride di Samo, trasmessa da Ateneo, in cui si narra della creazione da parte di Gelone, tiranno dei Siracusani all’inizio del V sec. a.C., di un luogo chiamato “corno di Amaltea”, in bosco nei pressi di Ipponio. A partire dall’analisi del contesto in cui la testimonianza ricorre, nei Deipnosofisti, e dal confronto con le fonti relative alla figura di Amaltea e ai luoghi così denominati nell’antichità, il contributo si propone di suggerire una chiave di lettura per questo episodio che marca gli esordi della politica dei Dinomenidi al di là dello Stretto. La Grotta dei Personaggi è localizzata in Sicilia occidentale, nei pressi di Monte Magaggiaro, a S del centro abitato di Montevago (AG). Nell’area sono presenti sorgenti termali, caratterizzate da acque cloro-solfate alcalino-terrose con temperatura di circa 40 °C e pH 7. La Grotta dei Personaggi, conosciuta già dai primi anni del 1900 e nota anche per ritrovamenti archeologici, non era mai stata dettagliatamente rilevata e studiata. La cavità si sviluppa prevalentemente in calcari di piattaforma della formazione Inici (Giurassico inf.) e in calcari di scarpata e pelagici della formazione Buccheri (Giurassico inf.-sup.). The impact of cigarette-smoke stress (a form of oxidative stress) on human lung fibroblasts and epithelial cells, particularly its effect on Hsp10 expression, has not been characterized despite the fact that a role for mitochondrial chaperonins in the development of lung diseases, ranging from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to bronchial carcinogenesis, has been suggested (1). We studied the effects of non-lethal doses of cigarette smoke extract (CSE) on the expression of Hsp10 in human lung fibroblasts (HFL-1 line) and epithelial cells (16HBE line). Increasing the VoIP Capacity through MAP Overhead Reduction in the IEEE 802.16 OFDMa Systems

One of the main issues with supporting VoIP service over 802.16 networks is the signalling overhead caused by the downlink MAP messages due to frequent transmissions and small packets. To decrease the MAP overhead, the 802.16 standard proposes some mechanisms, such as the compressed MAP and sub-MAPs. In this paper, we show by means of extensive dynamic simulations that sub-MAPs can reduce dramatically the signalling overhead associated with VoIP traffic and significantly improve overall VoIP capacity. At the same time, since sub-MAPs are more sensitive to packet drops, they tend to increase the number of HARQ retransmissions in downlink and transmission delays in the uplink direction.
Adaptive Contention Resolution for VoIP Services in the IEEE 802.16 Networks

In the IEEE 802.16 networks, a subscriber station can use the contention slots to send bandwidth requests to the base station. The contention resolution mechanism is controlled by the backoff start/end values and a number of the request transmission opportunities. These parameters are set by the base station and are announced to subscriber stations in the management messages. In the case of the VoIP services, it is critical that the contention resolution occurs within the specified time interval to meet the VoIP QoS requirements.
