This study focused on the views on home-school cooperation of teacher-students who are in the process of becoming professionals. The data were gathered from five focus-group interviews of 19 Finnish teacher-students. The data were analysed thematically. Better learning results were not the general aim of cooperation; instead, the aim was the child’s well-being. All parties benefited when cooperation functioned well. Yet, factors related to parents and teachers’ lack of time hinder cooperation. Teaching classic put to the test: Do tongue twisters work for L2 pronunciation?

Tongue twisters are a controversial pronunciation teaching classic. Whereas some see tongue twisters difficult and frustrating for learners, others find them fun and motivating. This study was inspired by these opposing views and the fact that previous studies have failed to offer convincing proof of whether this technique works for L2 pronunciation learning. Nordic welfare policies mitigate work–childcare reconciliation; however, they are not enough for mothers working in intensive work cultures. In addition, there are differences among the three Nordic states in both work–family policies and cultural norms as to how they should be used. In this article, we study the resources mothers who work in research, development and innovation (R&D&I) in Finland, Norway and Sweden rely on in their work–childcare reconciliation. Family firms often have an individual approach to developing capabilities for new generations. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan tekstityön roolia yhden lukion historian opettajan opetuksessa. Tavoitteena on kuvata historian tekstitaitojen opetusta siirryttäessä uusien opetussuunnitelman perusteiden mukaiseen entistä taitopainotteisempaan opetukseen ja pohtia historian opettajien valmiuksia siirtymään. Tapaustutkimuksessa keskitytään opetuksen tekstimaisemaan sekä tekstitoimintaan ja sen ohjaamiseen opettajan haastattelun ja luokkahuoneaineiston perusteella. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tutkia tekstiviestikielen piirteitä ja niiden yhteyksiä luku- ja kirjoitustaitoon ja kielellisiin taitoihin 9-10-vuotiailla lapsilla. Tutkimusaineisto on osa Iso-Britannialaisen Coventryn Yliopiston ja Jyväskylän yliopiston yhteistyönä toteutettavaa kansainvälistä vertailevaa tutkimusta, jonka tarkoituksena on tutkia lasten tekstiviestittelyn yhteyttä kirjoitetun kielen taitoihin. Tutkimus suoritettiin keväällä 2009 kolmella koululla 3. ja 4. luokalla olevien lasten keskuudessa.
