A SMALL INVADER CONQUERS SICILY: AMPHISTEGINA LOBIFERA (FORAMINIFERA: AMPHISTEGINIDAE)
2018
The highly invasive Amphistegina lobifera (Larsen, 1976), a benthic foraminiferal species native to the Red Sea, has colonized the Eastern Mediterranean through the Suez Canal and altered the native community structure. More recently, it has been reported from Malta and the Pelagian Islands within the Sicily channel. Here, we report new records from the southern coasts of Sicily, where we found it abundant both in the soft-bottom sediment and as epiphyt on algae. The occurrence of A. lobifera in Pantelleria and Favignana islands represents the Mediterranean westernmost record of this non-indigenous species.
Beratung beim Extensiven Lesen im DaF-Unterricht
2023
The following paper examines, from a multimodal perspective, a counseling sequence between a teacher and a student in the tenth grade at an Italian high school during a lesson of Extensive Reading in German as a foreign language. After an overview of the state of research on counseling during the lesson and a description of the function of counseling in extensive reading, there follows the presentation of the methodological procedure for the analysis. Analysis of the subsequent interaction aims to reveal multimodal patterns of action in the development of the counseling discourse, thus to encourage a reflection on the role of counseling in extensive reading and, subsequently, in the context…

The water inflows to the irrigation area of the Júcar river determine the conductivity of the Albufera because it receives the surplus irrigation water. It has been observed an inverse relationship between bo…
Amphiphilic peptide-tagged N-cadherin forms radial glial-like fibers that enhance neuronal migration in injured brain and promote sensorimotor recove…
2023
The mammalian brain has very limited ability to regenerate lost neurons and recover function after injury. Promoting the migration of young neurons (neuroblasts) derived from endogenous neural stem cells using biomaterials is a new and promising approach to aid recovery of the brain after injury. However, the delivery of sufficient neuroblasts to distant injured sites is a major challenge because of the limited number of scaffold cells that are available to guide neuroblast migration. To address this issue, we have developed an amphiphilic peptide [(RADA)3-(RADG)] (mRADA)-tagged N-cadherin extracellular domain (Ncad-mRADA), which can remain in mRADA hydrogels and be injected into deep brain…
The cervical fracture as first symptom of multiple myeloma: A case report
2017
Introduction: Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a clonal disorder characterized by proliferation and accumulation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow. Bone disease occurs in approximately 80% of patients with newly diagnosed MM. The cervical spine is the least common site of disease involvement. Case presentation: A 60-year-old female patient was referred to the Department of Neurosurgery for bone pain. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan showed a pathological fracture of the sixth cervical vertebra (C6). The laboratory tests and the bone marrow examination led to a diagnosis of IgA Ï MM (Durie Salmon stage IIIA). The patient underwent a cervical arthrodesis and started systemic Bortez…
Ocular tilt reaction: a clinical sign of cerebellar infarctions?
2009
Ocular tilt reaction (OTR) consists of head tilt, ocular torsion (OT), and skew deviation (SKD) combined with perceptual tilts such as deviations of the subjective visual vertical (SVV). Few case reports have shown that OTR also occurs in patients with cerebellar infarctions.1–4 However, no systematic clinical studies are available on the frequency of signs of OTR in patients with cerebellar lesions. Therefore, the questions arose as to whether OTR is a common clinical sign of an acute cerebellar lesion and whether the time course of its components is similar to those from brainstem infarctions. The cerebellar structures involved in 31 patients were studied in detail elsewhere.5 ### Methods…
