This paper offers an insight into the short and largely unexplored history of English–Polish and Polish–English phraseological lexicography. It aims to analyse two post-war English–Polish phraseological dictionaries, An English–Polish Dictionary of Idioms and Phrases (1963) by Piotr Borkowski and Wybór idiomów angielskich [A Selection of English Idioms] (1970) by Roman Gajda, from a qualitative and quantitative perspective. Today information tends to be increasingly specialised. Moreover, English is the language of most scientific literature worldwide. Within this framework, English dictionaries are very important reference tools which help improve exchange among members of a given professional community. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi wprowadzenie do pracy doktorskiej pod tym samym tytułem. Autor przybliża czytelnikowi pojęcie wielotekstu, a także dwutekstu (czyli szczególnego typu wielotekstu), prezentuje taksonomię par „oryginał + przekład” oraz przytacza konkretne egzemplifikacje. Przeglądu dokonuje, odnosząc się do pewnych założeń teoretycznych, np. właściwości strukturalnych tekstu, gatunkowości tekstu, nacechowania stylistycznego oraz funkcji, jakie dany tekst pełni w przestrzeni komunikacyjnej.
