Linear and nonlinear interest rate sensitivity of Spanish banks

Abstract Interest rate risk is one of the major financial risks faced by banks due to the very nature of the banking business. The most common approach in the literature has been to estimate the impact of interest rate risk on banks using a simple linear regression model. However, the relationship between interest rate changes and bank stock returns does not need to be exclusively linear. Optimization of a Sea Wave Energy Harvesting Electromagnetic Device

This paper presents the optimization of a permanent magnet linear generator directly coupled to sea waves. In order to maximize energy extraction, the stochastic features of the energy source is included in the mathematical model of the system in order to satisfactorily tackle the problem. An optimization procedure which includes the stochastic features of the model is presented and a machine built on the basis of the results of this procedure is shown.

A comparison among different kinds of stator lamination in tubular linear machines

In this paper the authors perform a comparison among three different stator structures for a Tubular Permanent Magnet Linear Machine. Each structure is characterized by its own lamination which is expected to contribute to the overall performance of the machine. A detailed analysis of the main figures of merit of the three configurations has been carried out in order to identify the configuration with the best characteristics. Significant data such as flux distribution, rated voltage and current, force on the moved and power losses have been compared. The results show that the choice of a mixed stator lamination allows to improve the performance of these machines.

Inhibitory activities of short linear motifs underlie Hox interactome specificity in vivo

Hox proteins are well-established developmental regulators that coordinate cell fate and morphogenesis throughout embryogenesis. In contrast, our knowledge of their specific molecular modes of action is limited to the interaction with few cofactors. Here, we show that Hox proteins are able to interact with a wide range of transcription factors in the live Drosophila embryo. In this context, specificity relies on a versatile usage of conserved short linear motifs (SLiMs), which, surprisingly, often restrains the interaction potential of Hox proteins. Input-Output Feedback Linearization Control of Linear Induction Motors Including the dynamic End-Effects

This paper proposes the theoretical framework and the consequent application of the input-output feedback linearization (FL) control technique to linear induction motors (LIM). LIM, additionally to RIM, presents other strong non-linearities caused by the dynamic end effects, leading to a space-vector dynamic model with time-varying inductance and resistance terms and a braking force term. The effect of manufacturing tolerances on a tubular linear ferrite motor

This study presents a numerical and experimental study on the effect of permanent magnet tolerances on the performances of a Tubular Linear Ferrite Motor. The statistical distribution of the magnetic characteristic of a set of commercial magnets is obtained experimentally while the performances of a the tubular motor are numerically evaluated. An efficient analytical approach for obtaining a five parameters model of photovoltaic modules using only reference data

Exploiting the equivalent one-diode circuit of a photovoltaic (PV) module, this paper proposes a novel and fully analytical model to predict the electrical performance upon solar irradiance intensity and PV module temperature. The model refers essentially to an equivalent circuit governed by five parameters and the extraction of them permits to describe the current–voltage curve of the PV panel and consequently permits to assess the energy output of PV modules. Recent results in output-feedback controller design make possible an efficient computation of static output-feedback controllers by solving a single-step LMI optimization problem. This new design strategy is based on a simple transformation of variables, and it has been applied in the field of vibration control of large structures with positive results.
