Tear proteomic studies revealed distinct similarities between contact lens wearers and dry eye patients. AMO Complete® multipurpose contact lens cleaning solutions containing taurine seem to have a beneficial effect regarding contact lens induced dry eye. To illuminate the effect of taurine on the tear proteome of contact lens wearers and sicca patients we developed a gel-based RP-RP capillary HPLC-MALDI TOF/TOF MS strategy. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship, precision, and bias of a propofol target-controlled infusion (TCI) system during prolonged infusion in neurosurgical patients. We retrospectively included patients undergoing general anesthesia for elective neurosurgical removal of brain tumors and postoperative sedation in the intensive care unit over a period of 3 months. An isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method with column switching and ultraviolet (UV) detection is described for quantitative analysis of the new antipsychotic drug ziprasidone. After centrifugation of serum or plasma samples and addition of fluperlapine as internal standard, the samples were injected into the HPLC system. The T cell response to bacterial antigens plays a major role in the pathogenesis of reactive arthritis (ReA) following enteric infections with Yersinia enterocolitica. To study the antigen specificity of the T cells at the site of inflammation, the response of cloned T cells from the synovial fluid of 2 patients with ReA to partially purified antigens of Yersinia enterocolitica was determined. The clones showed different patterns of response to various fractions, indicating a multiclonal response to Yersinia antigens, and these specificities differed in the 2 patients. During the last years in Germany a marked increase in the use of amphetamines such as 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA, ecstasy) has been observed. The use of these recreational drugs is especially common among young people participating in rave parties. Occasionally ring-methoxylated phenethylamine derivatives like paramethoxymethamphetamine (PMMA) or paramethoxyamphetamine (PMA) are found in street drugs offered as ecstasy. These compounds exhibit a higher toxicity than the methylenedioxyamphetamine derivatives. We report on the death of a 22-year-old man after the ingestion of ecstasy pills containing PMMA and PMA. Ocular Penetration of Topically Applied Norfloxacin 0.3% in the Rabbits and in Humans

The kinetics of topically applied norfloxacin 0.3 percent were studied in rabbit and man. All measurements were performed by high-pressure liquid chromatography. Norfloxacin concentrations were investigated five to 120 minutes in rabbit ocular tissues after instillation of a single drop. In normal eyes, after 30 minutes, mean +/- SEM levels were 14.3 +/- 3.7 micrograms/g in cornea, 3.3 +/- 0.7 micrograms/g in conjunctiva, 0.2 +/- 0.1 microgram/g in aqueous humor. After removal of the corneal epithelium concentrations were as follows: 84.2 +/- 15.8 micrograms/g, 7.3 +/- 2.3 micrograms/g, 8.6 +/- 1.9 micrograms/g respectively. Background The important triacylglycerol-lowering capacity of n-3 fatty acids is counterbalanced by their inherent sensitivity to oxidation.
