Methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns for nano-LC separation of tocopherols in vegetable oils

The separation and determination of tocopherols (Ts) in vegetable oils by nano-LC chromatography with UV-vis detection using lauryl methacrylate ester-based monolithic columns has been developed. The separation of Ts was optimized in terms of mobile phase composition on the basis of the best compromise among efficiency, resolution and analysis time. Using a mobile phase composed of ACN/methanol/water, an excellent resolution between Ts was achieved within 18 min. The LODs were lower than 0.26 μg/mL, being repeatability values of retention time and peak area below 0.15 and 3.1%, respectively. HPLC Method for Cyst(e)ine and Methionine in Infant Formulas

Cyst(e)ine and methionine were converted into cysteic acid and methionine sulfone by oxidizing with performic acid. The oxidized samples were then subjected to acid hydrolysis (6N HCl, 105-110°C/24 hr). After derivatization with phenylisothiocyanate, reverse phase HPLC separation was carried out at 48°C and with UV detection. Different gradients and pH values in the eluent were assayed to determine the best resolution. Analytical parameters, detection and quantification limits, linearity, precision and accuracy, were determined. The method was reliable and accurate for measuring cyst(e)ine and methionine in infant formulae.

The reaction of four different basic ionic liquid precursors with Aerosil®300 is presented. Chemisorbed imidazolium and phosphonium cations, with silanolate anions as part of the silicatic support, were obtained and investigated with various solid state NMR techniques.

Selective Hydrogenation of 1,3-Butadiene to 1-Butene by Pd(0) Nanoparticles Embedded in Imidazolium Ionic Liquids

The reduction of Pd(acac)2 (acac=acetylacetonate), dissolved in 1-n-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (BMI⋅PF6) or tetrafluoroborate (BMI⋅BF4) ionic liquids, by molecular hydrogen (4 atm) at 75 °C affords stable, nanoscale Pd(0) particles with sizes of 4.9±0.8 nm. Inasmuch as 1,3-butadiene is at least four times more soluble in the BMI⋅BF4 than butenes, the selective partial hydrogenation could be performed by Pd(0) nanoparticles embedded in the ionic liquid. Thus, the isolated nanoparticles promote the hydrogenation of 1,3-butadiene to butenes under solventless or multiphase conditions. The straightforward synthesis of a new donor-stabilized phosphenium ligand 3d by addition of bromodifurylphosphine to 1,3-dimethylimidazolium-2-carboxylate 1 is described. The obtained ligand exhibits a very strong π-acceptor character, comparable to that of triphenyl phosphite [P(OPh) 3 ] or of tris-halogenophosphines, with a v CO (A 1 ) at 2087 cm ―1 for its nickel tricarbonyl complex. Abstract Deep eutectic solvents (DES) were introduced as an alternative to ionic liquids (IL) to overcome the drawbacks of IL solvents. However, some authors consider them to be a subclass of ILs. In contrast, other authors emphasize that these are by their nature independent, different groups of substances. Thus, the question arises: Which solvent group should DESs belong to? Maybe a new class should be added to the existing ones. The aim of this work is to attract the attention of researchers using DES in their studies to the need for a proper use of terms.
