Relationship Between Surgical Difficulty of Third Molar Extraction Under Local Anesthesia and the Postoperative Evolution of Clinical and Blood Param…
2019
To determine whether the Pederson scale is a good predictor of the surgical difficulty of third molar extraction and establish whether such surgical difficulty is directly related to the postoperative course as assessed from clinical (pain, inflammation, and trismus) and blood (C-reactive protein, interleukin-6 [IL-6], and fibrinogen) parameters.A prospective observational study was conducted of 2 groups of patients who underwent simple or surgical third molar extraction under local anesthesia. Clinical and blood parameters and possible complications were recorded for 1 week after extraction.A total of 118 patients were studied. Surgical difficulty as predicted by the Pederson scale showed …
The effects of a topical gel containing chitosan, 0,2% chlorhexidine, allantoin and despanthenol on the wound healing process subsequent to impacted …
2016
Background Despite efforts to prevent postoperative discomfort, there are still many immediate side effects associated with the surgical extraction of impacted lower third molars. Cicatrization is a physiological process through which the loss of integrity of oral mucosa is recovered and damaged tissues are repaired. Bexident Post (ISDIN, Spain) is a topical gel that contains chitosan, 0.2% chlorhexidine, allantoin and dexpanthenol. While this gel has many clinical indications, there are no published clinical trials evaluating its use in impacted mandibular third molar surgery. This study aims to clinically evaluate the efficacy of a gel containing chitosan, 0.2% chlorhexidine, allantoin an…
Obstetrics outcomes after complete and partial molar pregnancy: Review of the literature and meta-analysis.
2021
The hydatidiform mole is a rare gynecological disease rising from the trophoblastic. Post-molar pregnancies have an extremely variable course, varying from repeated abortions, stillbirths, preterm births, live births, or recurring in further molar pregnancies. Literature on obstetric outcomes following molar pregnancy is poor, often including monocentric studies, and with data collected from national databases. This review and meta-analysis aim to analyze the obstetric outcomes after conservative management of complete (CHM) and partial (PHM) molar pregnancies. The meta-analysis was performed following the Meta-analysis Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) and the preferred repo…
Can buccal infiltration of articaine replace traditional inferior alveolar nerve block for the treatment of mandibular molars in pediatric patients?:…
2021
Background It is unclear if buccal articaine infiltration can be used as an alternative to standard inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) for treating mandibular molars in pediatric patients. Therefore, this study aimed to pool evidence to compare the efficacy of buccal infiltration of articaine vs IANB with lignocaine for pediatric dental procedures. Material and Methods We searched the PubMed, Embase, ScienceDirect, CENTRAL, and Google Scholar databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the two techniques in pediatric patients and reporting the success of anesthesia and/or pain during treatment. PRISMA guidelines were followed. Results Seven RCTs were included. Pooled analy…
Toward an Understanding of the Catalytic Role of Hydrogen-Bond Donor Solvents in the Hetero-Diels−Alder Reaction between Acetone and Butadiene Deriva…
2006
A detailed theoretical investigation of the catalytic role of hydrogen-bond- (HB-) donor molecules (water, methanol, chloroform, dichloromethane, and chloromethane) in the hetero-Diels-Alder reaction between acetone and N,N-dimethyl-1-amino-3-methoxy-1,3-butadiene is presented. This work extends a previous study (Domingo, L. R.; Andres, J. J. Org. Chem. 2003, 68, 8662) in which the importance of weak HB-donor solvents to catalyze more effectively than solvents with a higher dielectric constant but no HB-donor capability was analyzed. Now, based on density functional theory (DFT) at B3LYP/6-31+G(d) level calculations, different techniques for analyzing the nature of HB interaction, namely, n…
Rediscovery of Hieracium nebrodense (Asteraceae), a little-known endemic of Sicily (Italy)
2016
Hieracium nebrodense Tineo ex Lojac., a little-known endemic of Sicily, has been rediscovered from the type locality after almost two centuries since its first and only collection made in 1830 in the Madonie Mountains (N Sicily). In line with the treatment in ‘Med-Checklist 2’, it is reclassified as a subspecies of H. schmidtii. A new combination is made and a detailed description and illustration are provided.
Multi-focus image fusion using local variability
2018
In this thesis, we are interested in the multi-focus image fusion method. This technique consists of fusing several captured images with different focal lengths of the same scene to obtain an image with better quality than the two source images. We propose an image fusion method based on Laplacian pyramid technique using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) as a selection rule. We then develop two multi-focus image fusion methods based on the local variability of each pixel. It takes into account the information in the surrounding pixel area. The first method is to use local variability as an information in the Dempster-Shafer theory. The second method uses a metric based on local variability. …
Tetraspan vesicle membrane proteins: Synthesis, subcellular localization, and functional properties
2002
Tetraspan vesicle membrane proteins (TVPs) are characterized by four transmembrane regions and cytoplasmically located end domains. They are ubiquitous and abundant components of vesicles in most, if not all, cells of multicellular organisms. TVP-containing vesicles shuttle between various membranous compartments and are localized in biosynthetic and endocytotic pathways. Based on gene organization and amino acid sequence similarities TVPs can be grouped into three distinct families that are referred to as physins, gyrins, and secretory carrier-associated membrane proteins (SCAMPs). In mammals synaptophysin, synaptoporin, pantophysin, and mitsugumin29 constitute the physins, synaptogyrin 1-…
Explorative study of multifunctional agriculture in a Sicilian inland area
2016
The study investigates the agricultural multifunctional activities carried out in a Sicilian typical rural area, the motivations for entrepreneurial choices and the overall level of satisfaction. An exploratory survey was therefore carried out on a selected group of 13 farms localized in 3 Sicilian provinces, with the goal to identify strengths and weaknesses of their multifunctional activities. From the farm survey, several positive results came to light, among which a wide variety of services and activities, an increase in farm workforce and a high level in communication and Internet services. On the other hand, some criticalities emerged in the transition process, such as heavy delays in…
