Rebuilding a Cluster while protecting knowledge within Low-medium-tech supplier SMEs: A Spanish and French comparison

2021

International audience; Most of SMEs are engaged in open innovation practices, but they do not benefit from open innovation or from patenting in the same way as larger firms do. At the same time SMEs, as territorialized suppliers, play a crucial role within evolving regional specialization. In this context the purpose of our study is to examine how low and medium technology supplier SMEs learn and organize themselves at a territorial level to address the challenge of IP protection in an open innovation paradigm. We used a qualitative method with a longitudinal multi-case study involving 27 companies with a historical lance to compare the territorial dynamics of knowledge protection within c…

Manufacturing and characterization of Al matrix composites with nano reinforcements via cold spraying

2019

This study aims at developing new routes for manufacturing Al matrix composites (AMCs) strengthened with nano reinforcements by solid-state cold spraying (CS) process. Three different AMCs including CNTs/Al, TiB2/AlSi10Mg and TiB2/7075Al were successfully fabricated by CS of the composite powders prepared using different approaches. The microstructure evolution of as-sprayed composite samples was investigated by means of different characterization methods like X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (SEM/EBSD). The adhesion strength, tribological behaviour, corrosion properties as well as the mechanical performa…

Sea Urchin Mitochondrial Matrix Contains a 56-kDa Chaperonine-like Protein

1997

Abstract Paracentrotus lividus mitochondrial matrix contains a constitutive hsp of 56-KDa which cross reacts with a serum anti-hsp-60 chaperonine from yeast mitochondria. The localization of hsps preexisting or newly synthesized in different subcellular fractions of gastrula embryos is also analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis.

Procollagen C-proteinase Enhancer Stimulates Procollagen Processing by Binding to the C-propeptide Region Only*

2011

Background: Procollagen C-proteinase enhancer-1 (PCPE-1) is an extracellular glycoprotein that increases activity of certain zinc metalloproteinases involved in tissue development and repair. Results: PCPE-1 binds uniquely to the C-propeptide region of the procollagen molecule. Conclusion: PCPE-1 enhances proteolysis by binding solely to the procollagen C-propeptides. Significance: These data may lead to future applications in the development of antifibrotic therapies.

Hyperplastic Conotruncal Endocardial Cushions and Transposition of Great Arteries in Perlecan-Null Mice

2002

Perlecan is a heparan-sulfate proteoglycan abundantly expressed in pericellular matrices and basement membranes during development. Inactivation of the perlecan gene in mice is lethal at two developmental stages: around E10 and around birth. We report a high incidence of malformations of the cardiac outflow tract in perlecan-deficient embryos. Complete transposition of great arteries was diagnosed in 11 out of 15 late embryos studied (73%). Three of these 11 embryos also showed malformations of semilunar valves. Mesenchymal cells in the outflow tract were abnormally abundant in mutant embryos by E9.5, when the endocardial-mesenchymal transformation starts in wild-type embryos. At E10.5, mut…

Biomineralizations: insights and prospects from crustaceans.

2011

19 pages; International audience; For growing, crustaceans have to molt cyclically because of the presence of a rigid exoskeleton. Most of the crustaceans harden their cuticle not only by sclerotization, like all the arthropods, but also by calcification. All the physiology of crustaceans, including the calcification process, is then linked to molting cycles. This means for these animals to find regularly a source of calcium ions quickly available just after ecdysis. The sources of calcium used are diverse, ranging from the environment where the animals live to endogenous calcium deposits cyclically elaborated by some of them. As a result, crustaceans are submitted to an important and energ…

Examining stability of independent component analysis based on coefficient and component matrices for voxel-based morphometry of structural magnetic …

2018

Independent component analysis (ICA) on group-level voxel-based morphometry (VBM) produces the coefficient matrix and the component matrix. The former contains variability among multiple subjects for further statistical analysis, and the latter reveals spatial maps common for all subjects. ICA algorithms converge to local optimization points in practice and the mostly applied stability investigation approach examines the stability of the extracted components. We found that the practically stable components do not guarantee to produce the practically stable coefficients of ICA decomposition for the further statistical analysis. Consequently, we proposed a novel approach including two steps: …

Strengthening of Masonry Columns with BFRCM or with Steel Wires: An Experimental Study

2016

Nowadays, innovative materials are more frequently adopted for strengthening historical constructions and masonry structures. The target of these techniques is to improve the structural efficiency with retrofitting methods while having a reduced aesthetical impact. In particular, the use of basalt fiber together with a cementitious matrix emerges as a new technique. This kind of fiber is obtained by basalt rock without other components, and consequently it could be considered a natural material, compatible with masonry. Another innovative technique for strengthening masonry columns consists of applying steel wires in the correspondence of mortar joints. Both techniques have been recently pr…

Nanofibrillar scaffold resists to bile and urine action: experiences in pigs

2020

Biomaterial-based-scaffolds’ functions are to replace anatomical and functional features loss of an injured tissue. They can replace native tissue after their reabsorption. Material and methods. In our experimental procedures we utilized the PHEA-PLA+PCL scaffold in 2 female pigs to assess its resistance to bile and urine. Results. Both pigs survived to surgical procedures. After a month fibres appeared unchanged in term of form and dimension at electronic microscopy. Cells and ECM factors were founded inside the scaffold in a microscopical evaluation. Conclusion. Planar and tubular scaffolds were colonized by cells and extracellular matrix elements. The study conducted on pig suggested tha…
