2016
International audience; Serious games present a promising approach to training and learning. The player is engaged in a virtual environment for a purpose beyond pure entertainment, all while having fun. In this paper, we investigate the effects of the use of serious game in eco-driving training. An approach has been developed in order to improve players’ practical skills in terms of eco-driving. This approach is based on the development of a driving simulation based on a serious game, integrating a multisensorial guidance system with metaphors including visual messages (information on fuel consumption, ideal speed area, gearbox management, etc.) and sounds (spatialized sounds, voice message…
Dzīvnieku metaforas lietišķos rakstos žurnālā "Forbes"
2016
Coronavirus in sprachlichen Bildern
2022
The coranavirus pandemic has changed not only the lives of people around the world, but also the language they use. This paper aims to analyse the metaphors used to describe the SARS-CoV-2 virus and the COVID-19 disease it causes. It furthermore indicates the extent to which these metaphors determine how the pandemic is portrayed in press articles. The cognitive picture of the coronavirus (or pandemic) will be presented with reference to conceptual metaphors, as these are understood by Lakoff and Johnson (2014) and Jäkel (2003). The analysis considers the timeframe that starts with the outbreak of the pandemic in December 2019 and ends in March 2022, with the resulting corpus including 278 …
Conceptual Metaphors and Social Action. Divine Sex as Political-Economic and Gender Paradigm in Ancient Mesopotamia
2023
Divine love is the central theme of many ancient Mesopotamian compositions. Both Sumerian and Akkadian texts poetically describe the love and sexual relationship between gods. The object of this study is to analyse, through a gender and anthropological perspective, the metaphorical language used to describe divine love relationships, focusing on the use of images from agriculture, pastoralism, and the plant world. Such metaphors contribute to the creation and at the same time to the reinforcement of a sexual imaginary, not only divine but also human. Divine sexuality and the metaphors used to describe it become, over the millennia, paradigms for understanding and thinking about human sexual…
On the relation between language and gender in Catholic religious discourse
2021
The article falls within the current of linguistic research on religious language, specifically on the language of Polish Catholicism. The paper is divided into two parts. The first discusses the specificity of the problem of gender resulting from the fact that the objects of religious faith are supernatural Beings, but in human beliefs, in culture, they are also attributed gender. The figures from the world of the Sacred – God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Mary, the angel, Satan – although they may be conceptualized as androgynous (in philosophy, in feminist theology), in „ordinary”, everyday cult and pastoral language (prayers, songs, sermons, etc.) they are linguistically represented as perso…
Czytanie Süskinda
2016
Plots created by Patrick Süskind are transparent and uncomplicated; they follow a conventional path, seemingly aloof from formal modernist experiments, and close with distinctive endings; in popular reception, they give a sense of confidence that even the most fantastic worlds, derived from the corners of imagination, may be set into a familiar and closed whole. Perhaps this simplicity makes it easy to be satisfied by their seductive plot and steer clear off tracks leading to the content encrypted within the deep structure. The author of the present paper attempts to interpret the short stories: {Maître Mussard's Bequest} and {The Story of Mr Sommer} as a metaphorical and grotesque vision o…
Laika jēdziens dažādās kultūrās
2019
Language, Law and Food
2023
The language of law has been traditionally characterized by an extreme technicism and the use of a specific jargon whose comprehension is considered a prerogative of legal professionals. The situation is gradually changing. There is a general trend to make law more understandable to non-lawyers and to the normal people in general. This implies the use of a different, more colloquial, kind of language, that could be more familiar to ordinary people. On the other side, food today is no longer what humans eat to calm hunger, but has become an object of research, elaborations, and contaminations, an expression of the different world cultures and a social phenomenon. The links between food and l…
