Tracking of blood vessels motion from 4D-flow MRI data

2022

This paper presents a novel approach to track objects from 4D Flow MRI data. A salient feature of the proposed method is that it fully exploits the geometrical and dynamical nature of the information provided by this imaging modality. The underlying idea consists in formulating the tracking problem as a data assimilation problem, in which both position and velocity observations are extracted from the 4D Flow MRI data series. Optimal estate estimation is then performed in a sequential fashion via Kalman filtering. The capabilities of the method are extensively assessed in a numerical study involving synthetic and clinical data.

Evolution of indeterminate hepatocellular nodules at Gd-EOB-DPTA-enhanced MRI in cirrhotic patients

2018

To retrospectively analyze the evolution of indeterminate hepatocellular nodules in cirrhotic patients on serial Gd-EOB-DPTA-enhanced MRI, and to identify predictors of HCC development. This IRB approved study included 33 cirrhotic patients with 69 indeterminate hepatocellular nodules (mean diameter 1.1 cm) at baseline Gd-EOB-DPTA-enhanced MRI and a Gd-EOB-DPTA-enhanced-MRI follow-up of at least 2 years. Two radiologists evaluated size and signal intensity of each nodule at baseline and follow-up. Age, cirrhosis etiology, and HCC history were recorded. Data were compared between nodules that became HCCs at follow-up (HCC) and those that did not (no-HCC). On follow-up, 5/69 nodules became HC…

Focal nodular hyperplasia: a weight-based, intraindividual comparison of gadobenate dimeglumine and gadoxetate disodium-enhanced MRI

2019

PURPOSE: We aimed to qualitatively and quantitatively compare the enhancement pattern of focal nodular hyperplasia after gadobenate dimeglumine and gadoxetate disodium injection in the same patient. METHODS: 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations of 16 patients with 21 focal nodular hyperplasias studied after the injection of both contrast media were evaluated. Both MRI studies were performed in all patients. A qualitative analysis was performed evaluating each lesion in all phases. For quantitative analysis we calculated signal intensity ratio, lesion-to-liver contrast ratio and liver parenchyma signal intensity gain on hepatobiliary phase. Statistical analysis was performed w…

Assessment of tumor microcirculation with dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI in patients with esophageal cancer: initial experience.

2008

PURPOSE: To investigate the feasibility and impact of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) on tumor characterization and response to radiochemotherapy (RCT) in patients with esophageal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 48 patients underwent DCE-MRI to assess tumor microcirculation based on a two-compartment model function. Effects of RCT on kinetic parameters were studied in 12 patients with squamous cell carcinoma. RESULTS: Tumor microcirculation differs with respect to histological subtype: squamous cell carcinomas showed lower values of amplitude A (leakage space, P = 0.015) and higher contrast agent exchange rates (k(21), P = 0.225) compared with adenoc…

Magnetically labeled water perfusion imaging of the uterine arteries and of normal and malignant cervical tissue: initial experiences.

1998

Purpose: The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate a magnetically labeled water perfusion imaging technique as a non-contrast-enhanced approach to demonstrate the uterine artery, its branches, and to assess the cervical uterine blood flow in healthy volunteers and in patients with advanced uterine cervical carcinoma (FIGO IIB-IVA). Methods and Materials: Seven healthy volunteers (mean age, 29 years) and twenty-two patients (mean age, 52 years) with advanced cancer of the uterine cervix (FIGO IIB-IVA) were prospectively examined by magnetically labeled water perfusion imaging at different inversion delay times (300–900 ms). The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of all patients were…

Focal lesions in cirrhotic liver: what else beyond hepatocellular carcinoma?

2014

Detection and characterization of focal lesions in the cirrhotic liver may pose a diagnostic dilemma. Several benign and malignant lesions may be found in a cirrhotic liver along with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and may exhibit typical or atypical imaging features. In this pictorial essay, we illustrate computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging findings of lesions such as simple bile duct cysts, hemangioma, focal nodular hyperplasia-like nodules, peribiliary cysts, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, lymphoma, and metastases, all of which occur in cirrhotic livers with varying prevalences. Pseudolesions, such as perfusion anomalies, focal confluent fibrosis, and segmental hyperpla…

COMPARISON OF T-1 ESTIMATION TECHNIQUES IN CARDIAC MRI

1994

International audience; Abstract: We have shown that the use of a simple combination of inversion recovery/spin-echo (IR/SE) sequences provides undeniably superior precision in quantitative in vivo myocardium T-1 estimation than the standard multiple spin-echo approach. On a group of 25 healthy subjects, the T-1 dispersion was, respectively, 3.8% for the IR/SE combination and 19.6% for the best SE pair combination. Moreover, repeated measurements were carried out on seven of the volunteers in order to assess T-1 reproducibility. The mean intra-individual T-1 precision was found to be 2.8% for the IR/SE pair and 20.0% for the best SE pair. The in vivo imaging work was supported and corrobora…

Shape analysis of the cingulum, uncinate and arcuate fasciculi in patients with bipolar disorder

2016

Background: Abnormal maturation of brain connectivity is supposed to underlie the dysfunctional emotion regulation in patients with bipolar disorder (BD). To test this hypothesis, white matter integrity is usually investigated using measures of water diffusivity provided by MRI. Here we consider a more intuitive aspect of the morphometry of the white matter tracts: the shape of the fibre bundles, which is associated with neurodevelopment. We analyzed the shape of 3 tracts involved in BD: the cingulum (CG), uncinate fasciculus (UF) and arcuate fasciculus (AF). Methods: We analyzed diffusion MRI data in patients with BD and healthy controls. The fibre bundles were reconstructed using Q-ball–b…
