Application of LSTM architectures for next frame forecasting in Sentinel-1 images time series

2020

hidden markov random fields and cuckoo search method for medical image segmentation

2020

Segmentation of medical images is an essential part in the process of diagnostics. Physicians require an automatic, robust and valid results. Hidden Markov Random Fields (HMRF) provide powerful model. This latter models the segmentation problem as the minimization of an energy function. Cuckoo search (CS) algorithm is one of the recent nature-inspired meta-heuristic algorithms. It has shown its efficiency in many engineering optimization problems. In this paper, we use three cuckoo search algorithm to achieve medical image segmentation.

Scheduling independent stochastic tasks on heterogeneous cloud platforms

2019

International audience; This work introduces scheduling strategies to maximize the expected number of independent tasks that can be executed on a cloud platform within a given budget and under a deadline constraint. The cloud platform is composed of several types of virtual machines (VMs), where each type has a unitexecution cost that depends upon its characteristics. The amount of budget spent during the execution of a task on a given VM is the product of its execution length by the unit execution cost of that VM. The execution lengths of tasks follow a variety of standard probability distributions (exponential, uniform, halfnormal, etc.), which is known beforehand and whose mean and stand…

Discovering human mobility from mobile data : probabilistic models and learning algorithms

2020

Smartphone usage data can be used to study human indoor and outdoor mobility. In our work, we investigate both aspects in proposing machine learning-based algorithms adapted to the different information sources that can be collected. In terms of outdoor mobility, we use the collected GPS coordinate data to discover the daily mobility patterns of the users. To this end, we propose an automatic clustering algorithm using the Dirichlet process Gaussian mixture model (DPGMM) so as to cluster the daily GPS trajectories. This clustering method is based on estimating probability densities of the trajectories, which alleviate the problems caused by the data noise.By contrast, we utilize the collecte…

Ultra-high repetition all optical picosecond pulsed sources : applications in optical telecommunications

2013

This thesis presents the work carried out on the realization of fibered 40-GHz picosecond optical pulse sources in the telecommunications C-band. In the first part, we present a numerical and experimental study of the generation of 40-GHz pulse trains thanks to the nonlinear compression of an initial beat-signal by multiple Four-Wave Mixing process. Enhanced temporal stability is achieved by generating the sinusoidal beating thanks to a Mach-Zehnder modulator driven at its zero-transmission working point. In order to improve the quality of the generated pulses, we also demonstrate the suppression of stimulated Brillouin back-scattering by inserting several optical isolators into the compres…

Harmonic Balance Method and Stability of Discontinuous Systems

2019

The development of the theory of discontinuous dynamical systems and differential inclusions was not only due to research in the field of abstract mathematics but also a result of studies of particular problems in mechanics. One of first methods, used for the analysis of dynamics in discontinuous mechanical systems, was the harmonic balance method developed in the thirties of the 20th century. In our work the results of analysis obtained by the method of harmonic balance, which is an approximate method, are compared with the results obtained by rigorous mathematical methods and numerical simulation. peerReviewed

A novel pilot study of automatic identification of EMF radiation effect on brain using computer vision and machine learning

2020

Abstract Electromagnetic field (EMF) radiations from mobile phones and cell tower affect brain of humans and other organisms in many ways. Exposure to EMF could lead to neurological changes causing morphological or chemical changes in the brain and other internal organs. Cellular level analysis to measure and identify the effect of mobile radiations is an expensive and long process as it requires preparing the cell suspension for the analysis. This paper presents a novel pilot study to identify changes in brain morphology under EMF exposure considering drosophila melanogaster as a specimen. The brain is automatically segmented, obtaining microscopic images from which discriminatory geometri…

On the Influence of Grammars on Crossover in Grammatical Evolution

2021

Standard grammatical evolution (GE) uses a one-point crossover (“ripple crossover”) that exchanges codons between two genotypes. The two resulting genotypes are then mapped to their respective phenotypes using a Backus-Naur form grammar. This article studies how different types of grammars affect the resulting individuals of a ripple crossover. We distinguish different grammars based on the expected number of non-terminals chosen when mapping genotype codons to phenotypes, \(B_{avg}\). The grammars only differ in \(B_{avg}\) but can express the same phenotypes. We perform crossover operations on the genotypes and find that grammars with \(B_{avg} > 1\) lead to high numbers of either very sm…
