Theoretical construct, method and working tool of the “Preventive Restoration”
2014
A restoration may constitute a positive moment to guarantee the conservation, transmission and a compatible use of an historical architecture, but it is often the result of a long and guilty omission of care, attesting a lack of interest in the architectural heritage we are late forced to heal with extensive and inva-sive interventions that, in most cases, could be prevented. Clear maintenance programs and a correct and well-planned preventive action could be sufficient to avoid unexpected interventions when it is too late; such simple concepts - apparently shared by everyone - however, remain rele-gated to a level of brainy attitudes or protocols that do not produce any ad-vantage in terms…
Restauro, attività di ricerca e conservazione
2012
This chapter explains the methods of restoration of an architectural surface. In particular, attention is directed to methods of cleaning, consolidation and reintegration of plaster coatings and the treatise makes use of images of restoration sites.
p27Kip1participates in the regulation of endoreplication in differentiating chick retinal ganglion cells
2015
Nuclear DNA duplication in the absence of cell division (i.e. endoreplication) leads to somatic polyploidy in eukaryotic cells. In contrast to some invertebrate neurons, whose nuclei may contain up to 200,000-fold the normal haploid DNA amount (C), polyploid neurons in higher vertebrates show only 4C DNA content. To explore the mechanism that prevents extra rounds of DNA synthesis in these latter cells we focused on the chick retina, where a population of tetraploid retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) has been described. We show that differentiating chick RGCs that express the neurotrophic receptors p75 and TrkB while lacking retinoblastoma protein, a feature of tetraploid RGCs, also express p27K…
Hypertext support for the information needs of software maintainers
2004
Making changes safely to programs requires program comprehension and satisfaction of the information needs of software maintainers. In this paper we provide insights into improving hypertext-based software maintenance support by analyzing those information needs. There exists a series of four earlier, detailed-level empirical studies on the information needs of professional C program maintainers. We focus on these studies, synthesize their results and determine sources from which the required information might be attained. An experimental research tool, the HyperSoft system, is used to demonstrate the satisfaction of information needs and the system is analytically evaluated against the nee…
ASLA: reverse engineering approach for software license information retrieval
2006
Software maintenance and reuse require identification of the applied software licenses. The information needs of maintainers and reusers can be supported by reverse engineering tools at different information retrieval levels. The paper presents a reverse engineering approach called ASLA for retrieving license information typically used in OSS. User needs, system architecture, tool features, and tool evaluation are presented. The implemented tool features include support for identifying source file dependencies and licenses in source files. The tool is evaluated against another tool for license information extraction. ASLA supports the same programming languages as GCC. License identificatio…
Analysis of Ten Reverse Engineering Tools
2009
Reverse engineering tools can be used in satisfying the information needs of software maintainers. Especially in case of maintaining large-scale legacy systems tool support is essential. Reverse engineering tools provide various kinds of capabilities to provide the needed information to the tool user. In this paper we analyze the provided capabilities in terms of four aspects: provided data structures, visualization mechanisms, information request specification mechanisms, and navigation features. We provide a compact analysis of ten representative reverse engineering tools for supporting C, C++ or Java: Eclipse Java Development Tools, Wind River Workbench (for C and C++), Understand (for C…

On the Use of Prognostics and Health Management to Jointly Schedule Production and Maintenance on a Single Multi-purpose Machine
2020
This paper address the problem of using prognostic information in the decision-making process of a single multi-purpose machine. The prognostics and health management method is compared to condition-based maintenance combined with a genetic algorithm to determine the joint schedule of maintenance and production. The paper presents a methodology to select the adequate strategy while considering several factors that influence the functioning of the machine. The results show that operational and conditions variability influence the choice of the suitable methods. In the presented case, we show configurations where prognostic information is useless or useful.
NONSTRUCTURAL SEISMIC PREVENTION AND REHABILITATION
2010
