Motives for buying local, organic food through English box schemes

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explain the growing interest of English consumers in local organic food sold through box schemes, by providing insights into the motives of customers of such schemes and examining the relationship with their awareness about problems of the agro-food system. Design/methodology/approach A mixed methods approach combined in-depth interviews with 22 box scheme customers with a quantitative survey of 416 consumers, analysed by means of principal component analysis and an ordered logit model. Role of MUC1 in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: mechanistic insights

Background: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive and irreversible form of fibrotic interstitial lung disease. MUC1, a membrane-bound O-glycoprotein, is considered as oncogenic molecule by altering signaling pathways involved in cellular processes related to IPF. In previous studies we have observed an up-regulation of MUC1 and its phosphorylated forms in IPF lung tissue. However the exact participation of MUC1 in IPF is currently unknown. The European consumers’ understanding and perceptions of the “organic” food regime

This paper explores consumer understanding and perception of organic food, with specific reference to the relatively new concept of organic farmed salmon. Key themes associated with the term “organic” and its meaning, as determined by consumers, are explored and the role of labelling and regulatory authorities considered. Focus groups in five countries (UK, Germany, Spain, Norway and France) consisting of 196 participants showed that most consumers are confused about the meaning of the term organic and are largely unaware of the organic certification and labelling process. Destination engagement on Facebook: Time and seasonality

Abstract This paper studies the influence of time frames (posting day and posting time) and seasonality (low, medium and high) on positive/negative engagement in a Destination Management Organization (DMO) on Facebook. A content analysis was carried out on 639 posts, 178,913 audience reactions to such posts and 5330 comments. These posts were shared 45,194 times by the audience. The data analysis (regression analyses with optimal scaling) suggests that the best times to post are at 8  am , 10  am , 2  pm and 5  pm ; Thursday and Saturday are the best days to post, and the period before summer (from January to June) are the best months. In this conceptual article, we argue that defining corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate social irresponsibility (CSI) as opposite constructs produces a lack of clarity between responsible and irresponsible acts. Furthermore, we contend that the treatment of the CSR and CSI concepts as opposites de-emphasizes the value of CSI as a stand-alone construct.
