OBJECTIVES Narrow-diameter implants (NDI) are claimed to be a reasonable alternative to bone augmentation procedures. The aim of this comprehensive literature review was to conduct a meta-analysis comparing the implant survival of NDI and standard diameter implants (SDI) and to provide recommendations and guidelines for application of NDI. MATERIAL AND METHODS An extensive systematic literature search was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE and the Cochrane Library databases. The contributions of Hilbert and Dehn to non-Archimedean geometries and their impact on the Italian school

In this paper we investigate the contribution of Dehn to the development of non- Archimedean geometries. We will see that it is possible to construct some models of non- Archimedean geometries to prove the independence of the continuity axiom and we will study the interrelations between Archimede’s axiom and Legendre‘s theorems. Some of these interrelations were studied also by Bonola who was one of the very few italian scholars to really appreciate Dehn’s work. We will see that, if Archimede’s axiom does not hold, the hypothesis on the existence and the number of parallel lines through a point is not related to the hypothesis on the sum of the inner angles a triangle. Abstract Image restoration, or deblurring, is the process of attempting to correct for degradation in a recorded image. Typically the blurring system is assumed to be linear and spatially invariant, and fast Fourier transform (FFT) based schemes result in efficient computational image restoration methods. The microstratification of the microbial community at the chemocline of Lake Cadagno and the associated inorganic carbon fixation activity was studied by fine layer sampling. A deep chlorophyll maximum caused by diatoms overlying Cryptomonas was found at the upper edge of the chemocline. A high population density of phototrophic sulphur bacteria, mainly Amoebobacter cf. purpureus, occurred closely below the oxic-anoxic boundary. Despite the small fraction of total lake volume represented by the chemocline, half of the total carbon photoassimilation of the lake occurred within the chemocline with approximately equal contributions by oxygenic and anoxygenic phototrophs. The palaeontological, geochemical and mineralogical records of core GNS84-C106 were analysed in order to reconstruct palaeohydrological changes and palaeoproductivity patterns in the Gulf of Salerno for the last 34 kyr. This approach, including compositional analysis of planktonic and benthic assemblages, gave an insight into the relationships between continental, sea surface and bottom environmental changes. Background The aim of this study was to assess changes in bone volume after block bone augmentation and placement of dental implants and further evaluate the aesthetic outcome of the treatment. Material and Methods 9 Patients with atrophied anterior maxilla were included in this study. They received total of 21 implants. Dimensions of the alveolar ridge were measured from cone-beam computed tomography x-rays. The maximum entropy method (MEM) is used here to get an insight into the electron density [rho(r)] of phengites 2M (1) and 3T, paying special attention to the M1-formally empty site and charge distribution. Room temperature single crystal X-ray diffraction data have been used as experimental input for MEM. The results obtained by MEM have been compared with those from conventional structure refinement which, in turn, has provided the prior-electron density to start the entropy maximization process. Abstract The reliability of the Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) to reconstruct finite temperature electron density (ED) is here discussed, investigating the case of periclase (MgO). A theoretical electron density has been generated by quantum mechanic calculations and folded with a function simulating atomic thermal motion, in order to produce a reference errorless ED [ρ(r)REF]. The Fourier coefficients of ρ(r)REF have been calculated, and used as “observed” diffraction intensities to reconstruct via MEM the original ED.
