STOCHASTIC DYNAMICS OF TWO PICOPHYTOPLANKTON POPULATIONS IN A REAL MARINE ECOSYSTEM
2013
A stochastic reaction-diffusion-taxis model is analyzed to get the stationary distribution along water column of two species of picophytoplankton, that is picoeukaryotes and Prochlorococcus. The model is valid for weakly mixed waters, typical of the Mediterranean Sea. External random fluctuations are considered by adding a multiplicative Gaussian noise to the dynamical equation of the nutrient concentration. The statistical tests show that shape and magnitude of the theoretical concentration profile exhibit a good agreement with the experimental findings. Finally, we study the effects of seasonal variations on picophytoplankton groups, including an oscillating term in the auxiliary equation…
Thermal solitons along wires with flux-limited lateral exchange
2021
We obtain some exact solutions in the context of solitons, for heat conduction with inertia along a cylinder whose heat exchange with the environment is a non-linear function of the difference of temperatures of the cylinder and the environment, due to a flux-limiter behavior of the exchange. We study the consequences of heat transfer and information transfer along the wire, and we compare the situation with analogous solitons found in nonlinear lateral radiative exchange studied in some previous papers. We also find further exact solutions in terms of Weierstrass elliptic functions for the sake of completeness.
HIGH-RESOLUTION FOURIER TRANSFORM SPECTROSCOPY OF LANTHANUM IN Ar DISCHARGE IN THE NEAR-INFRARED
2013
A high-resolution spectrum of lanthanum has been recorded by a Fourier Transform spectrometer in the wavelength range from 833 nm to 1666 nm (6000 cm{sup –1} to 12,000 cm{sup –1}) using as light source a hollow cathode lamp operated with argon as the discharge carrier gas. In total, 2386 spectral lines were detected in this region, of which 555 lines could be classified as La I transitions and 10 lines as La II transitions. All La II transitions and 534 of these La I transitions were classified for the first time, and 6 of the La II transitions and 433 of the classified La I transitions appear to be new lines, which could not be found in the literature. The corresponding energy level data o…
Analysis of the infrared Fourier transform spectrum of the Dyad of 116SnH4
1990
Abstract The FTIR spectrum of monoisotopic 116SnH4 has been recorded with the Bruker 120 HR interferometer at Giessen, West Germany, in the ν 2 ν 4 range extending from 600 to 850 cm−1. The resolution (FWHM) was 2.1 × 10−3 cm−1. The Dyad ν 2 ν 4 (0100, 0001) was analyzed using a sixth-order Hamiltonian. The analysis of infrared transitions enabled us to determine 10 ground state parameters, 9 ν2 parameters, 17 ν4 parameters, and 18 interaction parameters. Of 3800 calculated transitions assigned to observed lines, 1183 unblended lines have been selected for the data refinement. For J ≤ 19, the value of the standard deviation is of the order of magnitude of the estimated experimental accuracy…
A Coherent Master Equation for active mode locking in lasers
2015
We present the derivation of a new master equation for active mode locking in lasers that fully takes into account the coherent effects of the light matter interaction through a peculiar adiabatic elimination technique. The coherent effects included in our model could be relevant to describe properly mode-locked semiconductor lasers where the standard Haus’ Master Equation predictions show some discrepancy with respect to the experimental results and can be included in the modelling of other mode locking techniques too.
A two-detector spectrometer for measurements of Doppler broadened positron annihilation spectra
2004
Abstract A two-detector spectrometer for measurements of Doppler broadened positron annihilation spectra has been constructed and tested. The energy difference of the annihilation quanta is measured in the analogue, not in the digital manner. The peak to background ratio in the measured spectra is of the order of 10 6 , the FWHM representing the energy resolution, equals to 1.1 keV , thus enabling the very subtle physical effects to be revealed. Some information on electronic structure of the investigated 3-d metals (Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu and Zn) has been determined using this spectrometer. It has been shown that the apparatus permits to detect the impurity-vacancy pairs in dilute nickel al…
Improving the Performance of Quasi-Hemispherical CdZnTe Detectors Using Infrared Stimulation
2012
The influence of monochromatic optical stimulation with wavelengths from 400 to 1100 nm on the characteristics of CdZnTe quasi-hemispherical detectors was studied. It was found that illumination with infrared (IR) light with wavelengths of 870-900 nm close to the absorption edge of the CdZnTe significantly improves the performance of the detector at room temperature. Improvement can be achieved with low-intensity IR illumination at 1-300 μW depending on the chosen wavelength of illumination. Higher intensity illumination was observed to lead to the degradation of the detector's spectrometric characteristics. IR radiation was noted to influence the detector's sensitivity, changing the equili…
A broad iron line in the Chandra/HETG spectrum of 4U 1705-44
2004
We present preliminary results from a Chandra 30 ks observation of the atoll sourco 4U 1705 44. In particular we concentrate on the study of the iron Kα line, using the HEG spectrometer. The iron Kα line at ~ 6.6 keV is found to be intrinsically broad (FWHM ~ 1.7 keV); its width can be explained by reflection from a cold accretion disk extending down to ~ 17 km from the neutron star center or by Compton broadening in the hotter (~ 3 – 4 keV) corona.
In-beam tests of scintillating fibre detectors at MAMI and at GSI
2008
The performance of scintillating fibre detectors was studied with electrons at the spectrometer facility of the Mainz microtron MAMI, as well as in a C-12 beam of 2 AGeV energy and in a beam of different particle species at GSI. Multi-anode photomultipliers were used to read out one or more bundles of 128 fibres each in different geometries. For electrons a time resolution of FWHM = 1 ns was measured in a single detector plane with a detection efficiency epsilon > 99%. A time resolution of 310 ps (FWHM) between two planes of fibres was achieved for carbon ions, leading to a FWHM = 220 ps for a single detector. The hit position residual was measured with a width of FWHM = 0.27 mm. The var…
A time-differential Mössbauer emission spectrometer with high efficiency and high time resolution
1986
A high-efficiency, high rate-capability, computer-based measuring setup for Time-Differential Mossbauer Spectroscopy was constructed. Applying NaI(Tl) and plastic scintillators for the detection of the 14.4 keV and 122 keV γ-radiation respectively, a superior timing (2, 3 ns FWHM) was achieved by a “fast-fast-ultra fast” timing method developed for that purpose.
