Report of a european collaborative exercise comparing DNA typing results using a single locus VNTR probe
1991
A collaborative exercise was carried out in 1989 among 12 European forensic laboratories using the single locus VNTR probe pYNH24, the restriction enzyme HinfI, the same set of human genomic DNA samples, and a standardized DNA size marker. The objectives of the exercise were: (1) to study the degree of variation within and between laboratories, (2) to obtain information on requirements for technical standardization allowing the exchange of typing results and (3) to compare different approaches for the identification of allelic DNA fragments of unknown size. Each laboratory carried out up to 10 independent typing experiments using the same DNA samples. The results were analysed independently…

Two vaccine types were developed using two different technologies: viral vectors and mRNA. Thrombosis is one of the most severe and atypical adverse effects of vaccines. This study aimed to analyze published cases of thrombosis after COVID-19 vaccinations to identify patients’ features, potential pathophysiological mechanisms, timing of appearance of the adverse events, and other critical issues.Materials and MethodsWe performed a systematic electronic search of scientific articles regarding COVID-19 vaccine-related thrombosis and its complications on the PubMed (MEDLINE) d…

Medical humanities can be a useful approach to empower trust in the patient-physician relationship and to avoid a strongly biologized approach to medicine. Today we have to face a new challenge: letting Medical Humanities be not only a maid discipline, but a inter-disciplinary subject that will give a new shape to medical courses.
Sustainability of national health services and justice: the case of new DAAs for HCV in Italy

The perspective is the eradication of HCV and reduction of main complications: liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Aim and Methodology - Dealing with justice issues related to DAAs for HCV in Italy through the anlysis of available literature and documentation. Results - The ethical prin…

Forensic Microbiology: A Case Series Analysis
2019
The importance of microbial colonization of human organs in a living body has long been assessed. What still remains unclear are the microbial changes occurring after death, thus leading to the advent of a relatively novel field of research called “Postmortem microbiology”. It is applied to several forensic fields such as post-mortem interval assessment and cause of death determination. In this contest, a major limit is thus represented by the correct interpretation of the microbial data and by the actual lack of standard procedures. Here we propose a standard operative protocol in order to avoid false positives given by contamination (the main problem), post-mortem translocation and agonal…
