METHODS USED IN AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT OF MASS MEDIA CHANNELS TYPES, RESULTS AND IMPACT
2015
In the present research I will analyze the reactions and opinions of the interviewed persons regarding the main methods used in audience measurement of mass media channels and also it will be analyzed the types, the results and the impact. At the same time, it is aimed at bringing in a connection between the results of audience surveys and the communication strategies developed by public and private companies. Thereby, I will use the interview as a qualitative research method, to confirm or infirm the hypothesis of the present research.
The "ticktock" of our internal clock: direct brain evidence of subjective accents in isochronous sequences.
2003
The phenomenon commonly known as subjective accenting refers to the fact that identical sound events within purely isochronous sequences are perceived as unequal. Although subjective accenting has been extensively explored using behavioral methods, no physiological evidence has ever been provided for it. In the present study, we tested the notion that these perceived irregularities are related to the dynamic deployment of attention. We disrupted listeners' expectancies in different positions of auditory equitone sequences and measured their responses through brain event-related potentials (ERPs). Significant differences in a late parietal (P3-like) ERP component were found between the resp…
Sleep Apnea, Sleepiness, and Driving Risk
2019
Obstructive sleep apnea is associated with excessive daytime sleepiness in about 50% of cases, and with increased risk of driving accidents. Treatment with continuous positive airway pressure effectively decreases such risk, but compliance with continuous positive airway pressure treatment is often suboptimal. According to the European Union Directive on driving risk, retention of a driving license in patients with obstructive sleep apnea requires assessment of sleepiness and adherence to continuous positive airway pressure treatment, but there remains uncertainty on the optimal methods to assess sleepiness on a large scale.
PREVISION JOURNALIERE DES POLLENS SUR LE TERRITOIRE NATIONAL FRANÇAIS, AVEC UN OBJECTIF D'INFORMATION SANITAIRE DES POPULATIONS ALLERGIQUES
2008
At present, 16% of French people suffer from allergies to one or several pollens. The corresponding symptoms can be presented as under benign form (rhinitis, conjunctivitis, cough) as under much more serious form : asthma. Forecast of the starting date of an allergic exposure risk to pollens is necessary from a sanitary and preventive standpoint. Forecast has to be more precisely as possible in order to begin anti-allergic treatments at appropriate moment, with a view of effectiveness and reduction of the costs due to this disease. The present study, taking place in all the French territory, concerns four pollen taxa among the most allergenic : ash, birch, grasses and ragweed. This work com…
Metabolomics of Human Amniotic Fluid and Maternal Plasma during Normal Pregnancy
2016
Metabolic profiles of amniotic fluid and maternal blood are sources of valuable information about fetus development and can be potentially useful in diagnosis of pregnancy disorders. In this study, we applied 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling to track metabolic changes occurring in amniotic fluid (AF) and plasma (PL) of healthy mothers over the course of pregnancy. AF and PL samples were collected in the 2nd (T2) and 3rd (T3) trimester, prolonged pregnancy (PP) until time of delivery (TD). A multivariate data analysis of both biofluids reviled a metabolic switch-like transition between 2nd and 3rd trimester, which was followed by metabolic stabilization throughout the rest of pregnancy proba…
Space-VLBI phase-reference mapping and astrometry
2001
We present 5 GHz space-VLBI observations of the quasar pair B1342+662/B1342+663 that demonstrate the feasibility of phase-reference techniques using an antenna in space. The space-based data were taken by the satellite HALCA, of the space-VLBI mission VSOP. From residual (referenced) phases we derive an upper bound of 10 meters to the uncertainty of the spacecraft orbit reconstruction. An analysis of the phase-reference maps of the sources additionally suggests that the above mentioned uncertaintyis likely not larger than 3 meters. With errors of this magnitude, HALCA is a useful tool for astrometric studies of close pairs of radio sources.
Systematic trends in (0 0 1) surface ab initio calculations of ABO 3 perovskites
2018
This work was supported by the Latvian Council of Science Grant No. 374/2012 and the Latvian National Research Program IMIS2. Many stimulating discussions with D. Vanderbilt, K.M. Rabe, M. Rohlfing, E. Heifets, J. Maier, G. Borstel and E.A. Kotomin are greatly acknowledged.
Comparative Ab Initio Calculations of ReO3, SrZrO3, BaZrO3, PbZrO3 and CaZrO3 (001) Surfaces
2020
We performed, for first time, ab initio calculations for the ReO2-terminated ReO3 (001) surface and analyzed systematic trends in the ReO3, SrZrO3, BaZrO3, PbZrO3 and CaZrO3 (001) surfaces using first-principles calculations. According to the ab initio calculation results, all ReO3, SrZrO3, BaZrO3, PbZrO3 and CaZrO3 (001) surface upper-layer atoms relax inwards towards the crystal bulk, all second-layer atoms relax upwards and all third-layer atoms, again, relax inwards. The ReO2-terminated ReO3 and ZrO2-terminated SrZrO3, BaZrO3, PbZrO3 and CaZrO3 (001) surface band gaps at the &Gamma
New physics in $B$ meson mixing: future sensitivity and limitations
2020
The mixing of neutral mesons is sensitive to some of the highest scales probed in laboratory experiments. In light of the planned LHCb Upgrade II, a possible upgrade of Belle II, and the broad interest in flavor physics in the tera-Z phase of the proposed FCC-ee program, we study constraints on new physics contributions to Bd and Bs mixings which can be obtained in these benchmark scenarios. We explore the limitations of this program, and identify the measurement of |Vcb| as one of the key ingredients in which progress beyond current expectations is necessary to maximize future sensitivity. We speculate on possible solutions to this bottleneck. Given the current tension with the standard mo…
Testing a Simplified Approach to Determine Field Saturated Soil Hydraulic Conductivity
2013
Abstract Interpreting and simulating hydrological processes need a large number of field saturated soil hydraulic conductivity, Kfs , data that should be collected with simple and rapid field experiments. A Simplified method based on a Beerkan Infiltration run (SBI method) was recently developed and tested successfully on Burundian soils. With the SBI method, a cylinder is inserted to a short depth into the soil and the infiltration time of a few small volumes of water repeatedly applied at the surface of the confined soil is measured. Calculating Kfs needs the slope of the linearized cumulative infiltration vs. time relationship and an estimate of the so called α* parameter. In this invest…
