Vasoactive peptide urotensin II in plasma is associated with cerebral vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage and constitutes a potential …

2019

National audience; OBJECTIVECerebral vasospasm (VS) is a severe complication of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Urotensin II (UII) is a potent vasoactive peptide activating the urotensin (UT) receptor, potentially involved in brain vascular pathologies. The authors hypothesized that UII/UT system antagonism with the UT receptor antagonist/biased ligand urantide may be associated with post-SAH VS. The objectives of this study were 2-fold: 1) to leverage an experimental mouse model of SAH with VS in order to study the effect of urotensinergic system antagonism on neurological outcome, and 2) to investigate the association between plasma UII level and symptomatic VS after SAH in huma…

Laparoscopic surgical management of localized recurrent ovarian cancer: a single-institution experience

2014

Background: Optimally, secondary cytoreduction is acknowledged as a valid option in terms of oncologic outcome for patients with platinum-sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer. In cases of localized relapse, a laparoscopic approach has been attempted at various institutions, but studies on its role for this subset of patients still are limited. This report describes the authors' experience using laparoscopic secondary cytoreduction for patients with localized recurrent ovarian cancer. The results from a retrospective analysis of a prospective case series are reported. Methods: Between October 2011 and May 2013, 29 patients with localized recurrent ovarian cancer were selected for a laparoscopi…

Relazione antropologica preliminare inumato 1386

2018

Modular Middleware for Gestural Data and Devices Management

2017

In the last few years, the use of gestural data has become a key enabler for human-computer interaction (HCI) applications. The growing diffusion of low-cost acquisition devices has thus led to the development of a class of middleware aimed at ensuring a fast and easy integration of such devices within the actual HCI applications. The purpose of this paper is to present a modular middleware for gestural data and devices management. First, we describe a brief review of the state of the art of similar middleware. Then, we discuss the proposed architecture and the motivation behind its design choices. Finally, we present a use case aimed at demonstrating the potential uses as well as the limit…

Development of an IoT Environmental Monitoring Application with a Novel Middleware for Resource Constrained Devices

2014

In this paper the development of a Mobile Health monitoring system is described. The system combines user location data with air quality information provided by a heterogeneous sensing infrastructure providing users with advises about their daily exposure to air pollutants. The highly dynamic integration of different kind of nodes, mostly characterized by rather constrained resources, of this application is crucial to implement the Internet of Things vision, and requires powerful and effective programming methodologies to abstract implementation of high-level distributed processing from hardware dependencies. We then describe our programming methodology and our novel middleware supporting d…

KIND-DAMA: A modular middleware for Kinect-like device data management

2018

In the last decades, we have witnessed a growing interest toward touchless gestural user interfaces. Among other reasons, this is due to the large availability of different low-cost gesture acquisition hardware (the so-called “Kinect-like devices”). As a consequence, there is a growing need for solutions that allow to easily integrate such devices within actual systems. In this paper, we present KIND-DAMA, an open and modular middleware that helps in the development of interactive applications based on gestural input. We first review the existing middlewares for gestural data management. Then, we describe the proposed architecture and compare its features against the existing similar so…

Adrano, Efesto e i Palici. Culti, interazioni etniche e middle ground nella Sicilia antica

2015

2017

The paper is focused on the route system of North and Central Sicily, from the Madonie Mountains to Vicari and Castronovo in the Early Middle Age. In this period the distribution of religious institutions along the routes shows the dynamics of a historical phase marked by new needs of military control, and the interest of the Teutonic Order.
