Adrano, Efesto e i Palici. Culti, interazioni etniche e middle ground nella Sicilia antica

Stranieri o nativi che fossero (εἴτε εἶεν ξένοι εἴτε ἐπιχώριοι), coloro che si accostavano ai santuari dei Palici, di Adrano e di Efesto assumevano un atteggiamento ricettivo e fiducioso, effetto di una strategia “macroretorica” che offriva forme di transazione e di mediazione in un quadro diffuso di conflittualità tra individui e tra gruppi. In questo volume, il ricorso al modello interpretativo del middle ground e al concetto di “porosità” culturale mostra che sia le comunità indigene sia quelle greche si ridefinivano in modi differenti nei diversi contesti spazio-temporali e adattavano la propria struttura identitaria alle più svariate circostanze: dal punto di vista di una “ecologia culturale”, lo spazio in cui operavano le realtà indigene e quelle greco-siceliote era inevitabilmente condiviso. Whether foreigners or natives (εἴτε εἶεν ξένοι εἴτε ἐπιχώριοι), those who approached the sanctuaries of the Palyxes, Adranos and Hephaestus assumed a receptive and trusting attitude, the effect of a "macro-rhetorical" strategy that offered forms of transaction and mediation in a widespread framework of conflict between individuals and between groups. In this volume, the use of the interpretative model of the middle ground and the concept of cultural "porosity" shows that both indigenous and Greek communities redefined themselves in different ways in different spatial-temporal contexts and adapted their identity structure to the most varied circumstances: from the point of view of a "cultural ecology", the space in which indigenous and Greek-Sicelian realities operated was inevitably shared.
