Fine specificity and cytolytic activity of continuously growing alloreactive cytotoxic T lymphocyte clones.

1980

The role of Lyt 1+ T-cell-derived secondard CTL inducing factor allowed the cloning of alloreactive cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) by the limiting dilution approach. Several monoclonal cell lines were established in vitro. The lytic activity of some of the cell lines exceeded that of CTL from bulk cultures; that is, 50% of the target cells were lysed at an effector to target cell ratio of 0.04:1. The fine specificity of individual CTL clones is discussed.

Cyclosporin A mediates immunosuppression of primary cytotoxic T cell responses by impairing the release of interleukin 1 and interleukin 2

1981

The site of action of the immunosuppressive drug cyclosporin A in in vitro cytotoxic allograft responses has been localized. General cytotoxic effects of the drug on proliferating T cells became apparent at concentrations of 500-1000 ng/ml, while selective effects were observed at concentrations of 10-100 ng/ml. The selective effects included a blockade of interleukin 2 release from activated T helper cells on the one hand and inhibition of interleukin 1 release from splenic adherent cells on the other. While cyclosporin A did not interfere with the intracellular events required for the activation and subsequent clonal expansion of alloreactive T cells, the lack of interleukin 1 and interle…

A Cohesive-frictional interface model subjected to mixed complex loading paths

2017

The paper presents a cohesive-frictional interface model based on surface damage mechanics. The proposed model is developed under the assumption that the fracture energies in mode I and in mode II are different values, as shown by several experimental evidences. At difference with the most spread available interface models, only one isotropic interface internalvariable is adopted for the constitutive model. The interface constitutive model is developed in a Thermodynamic consistent framework with an Helmholtz free energy potential and the fulfillment of the thermodynamic principles is obtained enforcing the Clausius-Duhem inequality. The damage/friction activation functions and dissipative …

Macro-uncertainty and financial stress spillovers in the Eurozone

2020

Abstract This paper studies macro-uncertainty and financial distress spillovers within the Eurozone. We propose a novel methodology to derive the indices of spillovers, by using a Global Vector autoregressive model fitted to data sampled at mixed-frequencies. We find that macro-uncertainty and financial stress are relatively disconnected in the Eurozone. We also show that connectedness between core and periphery Eurozone countries mainly operates through financial stress and it decreases since the outbreak of the Eurozone sovereign debt crisis (with an increasing role played by peripheral countries). As a result, investors and policymakers should monitor separately macro-uncertainty and fin…

The Classical Notion of Competition Revisited

2013

This article seeks to fill a lacuna within classical economics concerning the process of market price determination in situations of market disequilibrium. To this aim, first we distinguish the classical notion of free competition from the Walrasian notion of perfect competition and we argue that the latter is beset with some theoretical difficulties alien to the former. Second, we reconstruct in some detail Smith’s and Marx’s views concerning market price determination and show that Marx’s extensive use of metaphors and numerical examples foreshadows the modern taxonomy of buyers’ market, sellers’ market, and mixed strategy equilibrium in the capacity space of a standard Bertrand duopoly m…

Multiproduct trading with a common agent under complete information: Existence and characterization of Nash equilibrium

2014

This paper focuses on oligopolistic markets in which indivisible goods are sold by multiproduct firms to a continuum of homogeneous buyers, with measure normalized to one, who have preferences over bundles of products. Our analysis contributes to the literature on private, delegated agency games with complete information, extending the insights by Chiesa and Denicolò (2009) to multiproduct markets with indivisibilities and where the agent's preferences need not be monotone. By analyzing a kind of extended contract schedules -mixed bundling prices- that discriminate on exclusivity, the paper shows that efficient equilibria always exist in such settings. There may also exist inefficient equil…

ANTERIOR OPEN BITE TREATED WITH E F APPLIANCE: A CASE REPORT

2014

Aim. Current trends in pediatric orthodontics aim to identify incorrect development of occlusion and medium/lower facial third as early as possible. Functional appliances are a popular type of device used for treating malocclusion in patients who are growing. Among the functional orthodontic devices intended for this purpose, “Education Functional” is highlighted. It was developed by Dr. Daniel Rollet. In fact, in the occlusal alterations, early preventive treatment with elastodontic devices resulted in avoiding dysfunctional forces from acting on the skeletal pattern, thus reaching a balance between bone basis and muscular components. This report describes a clinical case of a patient (9-y…
