40 years of time geography: from the conceptual framework to the GI Science contributions

2011

International audience; Social scientists studying the effects of space on human behavior usually consider the time dimension as an external factor. Activities are analyzed in an aggregate sense such that the process of individual decision-making is depicted as the single case of "the average individual." In order to link efficiently space and time dimensions, Torsten Hägerstrand defined in 1970's the concept of Time Geography and thereby founded the school of Swedish geography. His conceptual framework was destined to change the course of history in the social sciences. After 40 years, this success has transcended scientific boundaries. In this paper, we propose to review the evolution of …

A survival approach for the analysis of cruise passengers’ behavior at the destination

2016

The present work aims at proposing an analysis of cruise passengers’ behavior at the destination through a survival analysis approach. Data collected through GPS devices on cruise passengers’ behavior in the port of Palermo and Dubrovnik are analyzed in order to show similarities and differences among behaviors at the destination, according to socio-demographic characteristics. Results are of interest from both a methodological perspective, related with the processing and the analysis of GPS data, and from the destination management perspective.

L’indagine sulla mobilità turistica: strumenti di rilevazione

2010

This paper discusses the features and the structure of the interview forms used within the sample research on tourist mobility carried out in Sicily and Sardinia in years 2009 and 2010. The focus of the paper is on the strategies adopted by the research team in order to control non sampling errors. The limitations of the instruments respect to the secondary purposes of the research will be discussed as well.

Cruise passengers' behavior at the destination: Investigation using GPS technology

2016

This paper aims at segmenting cruise passengers in order to identify passengers' profiles according to their behavior at destination. Through an integrated use of traditional survey instruments and of GPS technologies, a set of indicators for the analysis of passengers' mobility at destination is proposed. Data collected in the port of Palermo are used in order to investigate space-time activities of cruise passengers at the destination. Monothetic Analysis is used in order to segment passengers according to their behavior at destination, and groups are then compared in terms of socio-demographic characteristics and other variables collected through questionnaire-based survey. Results ident…

The yeast Aft1 transcription factor activates ribonucleotide reductase catalytic subunit RNR1 in response to iron deficiency

2020

Eukaryotic ribonucleotide reductases are iron-dependent enzymes that catalyze the rate-limiting step in the de novo synthesis of deoxyribonucleotides. Multiple mechanisms regulate the activity of ribonucleotide reductases in response to genotoxic stresses and iron deficiency. Upon iron starvation, the Saccharomyces cerevisiae Aft1 transcription factor specifically binds to iron-responsive cis elements within the promoter of a group of genes, known as the iron regulon, activating their transcription. Members of the iron regulon participate in iron acquisition, mobilization and recycling, and trigger a genome-wide metabolic remodeling of iron-dependent pathways. Here, we describe a mechanism …

Collecte des données Véhicule/Environnement et remontée avec réseau Cellulaire et réseau Véhiculaire

2019

Vertical handover is one of the key technologies that will facilitate the connected and autonomous vehicles deployment. Today, the emergence of Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs): Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications, Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) has enabled new applications such as Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), real-time applications (for example, autonomous driving), road traffic management applications and comfort applications. However, these networks are characterized by a high level of mobility and dynamic change in the topology, which generates scattered networks and requires handover mechanisms for maintaining ongoing session…
