Magnetic excitations in TbP under hydrostatic pressure

Singlet ground state magnets still attract much attention. In these systems magnetic ordering occurs via the polarization of the ground state, and noticeable dispersion of well defined excitations is expected in systems where the exchange coupling is about equal to the crystal field energy. In addition, the two singlet-triplet systems PrSbl and TbP2 where single crystals are available and which have been studied in detail showed a pronounced splitting of the Г1–Г4 magnetic excitations where the triple degeneracy was lifted along [100] and [011] by a strong anisotropy of the exchange.
On the correlation between phase-locking modes and Vibrational Resonance in a neuronal model

International audience; We numerically and experimentally investigate the underlying mechanism leading to multiple resonances in the FitzHugh-Nagumo model driven by a bichromatic excitation. Using a FitzHugh-Nagumo circuit, we first analyze the number of spikes triggered by the system in response to a single sinusoidal wave forcing. We build an encoding diagram where different phase-locking modes are identified according to the amplitude and frequency of the sinusoidal excitation. Next, we consider the bichromatic driving which consists in a low frequency sinusoidal wave perturbed by an additive high frequency signal. In contrast to spin-only systems the paramagnetic phases of systems with crystal field split ground multiplets exhibit magnetic excitations of finite energy. In the presence of a magnetic exchange coupling the excitons will propagate through the lattice. A measurement of the dispersion allows in principle an insight into the exchange interaction, which is of fundamental importance for the understanding of the magnetic phenomena. Identification of Bending Modes of Vibration in Rails by a Laser Doppler Vibrometer on a Moving Platform

This paper introduces a method to identify the bending modes of vibration of railway tracks by using a laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) mounted on a moving platform. Two sets of experiments were conducted at Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) in Pueblo Colorado, in order to validate the proposed method. First, the bending vibration modes were identified using the signals collected from a rail span (rail section between two consecutive sleepers) by accelerometers under moving car excitation. This paper reports an extensive study of the static (spontaneous polarization, ${\mathit{P}}_{\mathit{s}}$, tilt angle \ensuremath{\theta}, and pitch) and dynamic properties of a ferroelectric liquid-crystalline polymer. It is shown that a ferroelectric liquid-crystalline polymer (diluted polysiloxane) exhibits physical behavior similar to that of a low-molar-mass liquid crystal in terms of contrast ratio, pitch of the helix, and relationship between ${\mathit{P}}_{\mathit{s}}$ and \ensuremath{\theta}. We have studied the local dynamics of calf thymus double-helical DNA by means of an "optical labeling" technique. The study has been performed by measuring the visible absorption band of the cationic dye ethidium bromide, both free in solution and bound to DNA, in the temperature interval 360-30 K and in two different solvent conditions.
