Myocardial infarction following convulsive and nonconvulsive seizures

Abstract Myocardial infarction (MI) has been rarely reported in association with seizures, and only of convulsive type. Methods We describe a series of five patients observed over a 4-year period, who presented MI immediately following seizures, either convulsive or nonconvulsive. Results Patient 1 had pre-existent coronary disease (CD) and presented multiple focal nonconvulsive seizures. Patient 2 had no CD, normal coronary angiography and presented secondary generalized convulsive seizures. Patient 3 had no history of CD, normal angiography and had a first single convulsive seizure. Guideline-adherence regarding critical time intervals in the German Chest Pain Unit registry

Background: Since 2008, the German Cardiac Society certified 256 Chest Pain Units (CPUs). Little is known about adherence to recommended performance measures in patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) presenting to CPUs. We investigated guideline-adherence regarding critical time intervals and selected performance measures in German Chest Pain Units. Acute in vivo administration of a fish oil-containing emulsion improves post-ischemic cardiac function in n-3-depleted rats

International audience; A novel i.v. lipid preparation (MCT:FO) containing 80% medium chain-triacylglycerols and 20% fish oil was recently developed to rapidly replenish cell membrane phospholipids with omega 3 (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). In regard of this property, we investigated the effect of a single i.v. administration of MCT:FO on the recovery of cardiac function after ischemia in control and n-3-depleted rats. Results were compared with those obtained either with a control preparation, where FO was replaced by triolein (MCT:OO), or with saline. Liraglutide and cardiovascular outcomes in type 2 diabetes

The cardiovascular effect of liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide 1 analogue, when added to standard care in patients with type 2 diabetes, remains unknown. METHODS In this double-blind trial, we randomly assigned patients with type 2 diabetes and high cardiovascular risk to receive liraglutide or placebo. The primary composite outcome in the time-to-event analysis was the first occurrence of death from cardiovascular causes, nonfatal myocardial infarction, or nonfatal stroke.
