Optical method for predicting the composition of self-assembled monolayers of mixed thiols on surfaces coated with silver nanoparticles.

With a simple optical method, based on UV-vis absorption spectra on glass slides, it is possible to predict the composition of self-assembled monolayers of mixed thiols, grafted on monolayers of silver nanoparticles. Glass slides are modified with the layer-by-layer technique, first forming a monolayer of mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane, then grafting a monolayer of silver nanoparticles on it. These surfaces are further coated by single or mixed thiol monolayers, by dipping the slides in toluene solutions of the chosen thiols. Solitary necrotic nodules of the liver: cross-sectional imaging findings and follow-up in nine patients.

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of our study was to retrospectively evaluate the sonographic, CT, and MRI findings (number, diameter, lobar location, depth from the hepatic capsule, and appearance of lesions) in a series of nine patients with pathologically proven solitary necrotic nodules of the liver and the natural evolution at follow-up in four of the nine patients.CONCLUSION. Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers for the selective determination of cocaine by ion mobility spectrometry

Abstract Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) were prepared for cocaine recognition by bulk polymerization in the presence of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). Two reagents (polyethylene glycol (PEG) and 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (V)) were used for MNPs modification. MMIPs were characterized and compared in terms of loading capacity, reusability, accuracy and precision for the extraction of cocaine from saliva samples. Diagnosis and Classification of 17 Diseases from 1404 Subjects via Pattern Analysis of Exhaled Molecules.

We report on an artificially intelligent nanoarray based on molecularly modified gold nanoparticles and a random network of single-walled carbon nanotubes for noninvasive diagnosis and classification of a number of diseases from exhaled breath. The performance of this artificially intelligent nanoarray was clinically assessed on breath samples collected from 1404 subjects having one of 17 different disease conditions included in the study or having no evidence of any disease (healthy controls). Blind experiments showed that 86% accuracy could be achieved with the artificially intelligent nanoarray, allowing both detection and discrimination between the different disease conditions examined.…

Sensitive and selective plasmonic assay for spermine as biomarker in human urine.

A simple, fast, and highly selective and sensitive colorimetric assay to detect nanomolar levels of spermine in human urine (healthy donors, cancer patients) is reported. A novel inkjet printing based approach is developed for the fabrication of a customizable platform on glass substrates allowing for surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) detection of analytes up to single hot spots generated by the spontaneous aggregation of Ag nanoparticles (Ag NPs) in pL scale droplets.
