Endoscopic therapy of adenomas of the papilla of Vater. A retrospective analysis with long-term follow-up.

Abstract Aims. To compare the efficacy and the complication rate between endoscopic snare resection of adenomas of Vater's papilla and endoscopic palliation. Methods. In a retrospective, non randomized manner, we compared long-term results of our endoscopic strategies in 36 patients with histologically confirmed adenoma of Vater's papilla submitted either to local endoscopic snare resection (n=18) or to simple endoscopic palliation (n=18), respectively. Novel mutations of the MET proto-oncogene in papillary renal carcinomas.

Hereditary papillary renal carcinoma (HPRC) is characterized by multiple, bilateral papillary renal carcinomas. Previously, we demonstrated missense mutations in the tyrosine kinase domain of the MET proto-oncogene in HPRC and a subset of sporadic papillary renal carcinomas. In this study, we screened a large panel of sporadic papillary renal carcinomas and various solid tumors for mutations in the MET proto-oncogene. Erratum: By promoting cell differentiation, miR-100 sensitizes basal-like breast cancer stem cells to hormonal therapy

Basal-like breast cancer is an aggressive tumor subtype with a poor response to conventional therapies. Tumor formation and relapse are sustained by a cell subset of Breast Cancer Stem Cells (BrCSCs). Here we show that miR-100 inhibits maintenance and expansion of BrCSCs in basal-like cancer through Polo-like kinase1 (Plk1) down-regulation. Moreover, miR-100 favors BrCSC differentiation, converting a basal like phenotype into luminal. Concordance of Genomic Alterations between Primary and Recurrent Breast Cancer

Abstract There is growing interest in delivering genomically informed cancer therapy. Our aim was to determine the concordance of genomic alterations between primary and recurrent breast cancer. Targeted next-generation sequencing was performed on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples, profiling 3,320 exons of 182 cancer-related genes plus 37 introns from 14 genes often rearranged in cancer. EGFR and PCNA experession in oral squamous cell carcinomas—a valuable tool in estimating the patient's prognosis

We investigated 100 cases of oral squamous cell carcinomas immunohistologically with respect to the expression of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). The results were correlated with a new malignancy grading of the invasive tumour areas and the clinical outcome of the patients to estimate the individual prognosis. In conclusion, the amount of antigen expression of both antigens increases with the increasing grade of malignancy of the oral squamous cell carcinoma.
