Cross-Kerr nonlinearity in optomechanical systems
2015
We consider the response of a nanomechanical resonator interacting with an electromagnetic cavity via a radiation pressure coupling and a cross-Kerr coupling. Using a mean field approach we solve the dynamics of the system, and show the different corrections coming from the radiation pressure and the cross-Kerr effect to the usually considered linearized dynamics.
Cubic optical nonlinearity of
1999
We perform angular non-critical phase-matching third-harmonic generation (THG) experiments in (KTP). From these experiments, we determine the magnitude and sign of the two phase-matched nonlinear coefficients of by a complete analysis of phase-matching properties of the cascaded quadratic and pure cubic processes, the resolution of the coupled propagation equations and by the calculation of the quadratic and cubic dielectric susceptibility tensor by an extended bond charge model; we find: and . We also demonstrate that the two studied THG are mainly governed by the cubic interaction.
Cross-Kerr nonlinearity: a stability analysis
2015
We analyse the combined effect of the radiation-pressure and cross-Kerr nonlinearity on the stationary solution of the dynamics of a nanomechanical resonator interacting with an electromagnetic cavity. Within this setup, we show how the optical bistability picture induced by the radiation-pressure force is modified by the presence of the cross-Kerr interaction term. More specifically, we show how the optically bistable region, characterising the pure radiation-pressure case, is reduced by the presence of a cross-Kerr coupling term. At the same time, the upper unstable branch is extended by the presence of a moderate cross-Kerr term, while it is reduced for larger values of the cross-Kerr co…
Electrooptic beam deflection with latex
1988
The use of latex in electrooptic devices is proposed. The static non linearity coefficient is shown to be approximatively 200 times the optical one. The theory of a beam deflector is developed and an explicit expression is given for the deflection angle versus the physical parameters of the sample Utilisation de suspensions aqueuses de latex dans un dispositif electro-optique. On montre que le coefficient statique de non-linearite devrait etre 200 fois plus eleve que le coefficient optique. Application a un deflecteur optique
Nonlinear scalar field equations with general nonlinearity
2018
Consider the nonlinear scalar field equation \begin{equation} \label{a1} -\Delta{u}= f(u)\quad\text{in}~\mathbb{R}^N,\qquad u\in H^1(\mathbb{R}^N), \end{equation} where $N\geq3$ and $f$ satisfies the general Berestycki-Lions conditions. We are interested in the existence of positive ground states, of nonradial solutions and in the multiplicity of radial and nonradial solutions. Very recently Mederski [30] made a major advance in that direction through the development, in an abstract setting, of a new critical point theory for constrained functionals. In this paper we propose an alternative, more elementary approach, which permits to recover Mederski's results on the scalar field equation. T…
COST 241 intercomparison of nonlinear refractive index measurements in dispersion shifted optical fibres at =1550 nm
1997
COST 241 measurements of the nonlinear refractive index, n/sub 2/, exhibit a large scatter depending on the specific measurement technique. This is largely due to the electrostrictive contribution to the Kerr nonlinearity, as is revealed by the resonant behaviour of n/sub 2/ (with peak values up to 3.9 10/sup -20/ m/sup 2/ W/sup -1/) observed with signal modulation frequencies in the 0.11 GHz range.
Nonlinearities in the Becker-Tomes-Solon model
2011
The aim of this paper is to explore nonlinearities in the relationship between parents and children earnings. We rst discuss a simple extension of the Becker-Tomes-Solon model accounting for nonlinearity. We then test the linearity of intergenerational transmission employing a set of 141 intergenerational mobility tables in 35 di erent countries at di erent time periods, and nd that linearity is rejected in 89 tables. We nally explore the correlation between the \strength of concavity" and income inequality. Our ndings suggest that more unequal societies tend to have a more concave intergenerational transmission process.
Counter-propagating frequency mixing with Terahertz waves in diamond
2013
Frequency conversion by means of Kerr nonlinearity is one of the most common and exploited nonlinear optical processes in the UV, visible, IR, and mid-IR spectral regions. Here we show that wave mixing of an optical field and a terahertz wave can be achieved in diamond, resulting in the frequency conversion of the terahertz radiation either by sum- or difference-frequency generation. In the latter case, we show that this process is phase matched and most efficient in a counterpropagating geometry.
Singular Neumann (p, q)-equations
2019
We consider a nonlinear parametric Neumann problem driven by the sum of a p-Laplacian and of a q-Laplacian and exhibiting in the reaction the competing effects of a singular term and of a resonant term. Using variational methods together with suitable truncation and comparison techniques, we show that for small values of the parameter the problem has at least two positive smooth solutions.
Halogen bonding enhances nonlinear optical response in poled supramolecular polymers
2015
We demonstrate that halogen bonding strongly enhances the nonlinear optical response of poled supramolecular polymer systems. We compare three nonlinear optical chromophores with similar electronic structures but different bond-donating units, and show that both the type and the strength of the noncovalent interaction between the chromophores and the polymer matrix play their own distinctive roles in the optical nonlinearity of the systems. acceptedVersion Peer reviewed
