Oficerowie wyznania ewangelickiego ze Śląska w armii szwedzkiej podczas wielkiej wojny północnej (1700 –1721). Prolegomena
2019
The article constitutes a prolegomenon to the issue of the service of Silesian Evangelicals in the Swedish army during the Great Northern War (1700 –1721), which has so far been absent in scholarly literature. The main objective of this text is to analyse their motives for joining the military service of the Kingdom of Sweden, as well as to trace their career and position in the officer corps. The above issue is part of the research on the officer corps of Charles XII’s army, and thus it may serve as an important point of reference also for the works devoted to the service of Polish and Lithuanian officers in the Swedish army of that period. A group of several dozen representatives of the S…
Iron Induces Proliferation and Morphogenesis in Primmorphs from the Marine SpongeSuberites domuncula
2002
Dissociated cells from marine demosponges retain their proliferation capacity if they are allowed to form special aggregates, the primmorphs. On the basis of incorporation studies and septin gene expression, we show that Fe3+ ions are required for the proliferation of cells in primmorphs from Suberites domuncula. In parallel, Fe3+ induced the expression of ferritin and strongly stimulated the synthesis of spicules. This result is supported by the finding that the enzymatic activity of silicatein, converting organosilicon to silicic acid, depends on Fe3+. Moreover, the expression of a scavenger receptor molecule, possibly involved in the morphology of spicules, depends on the presence of Fe3…
O rozwoju polszczyzny na Ziemiach Zachodnich i Północnych. Kierunki badań
2018
Artykuł ma charakter przeglądowy. Autor omawia społeczno-kulturowe podłoże zmian językowych wywołanych przez powojenne ruchy migracyjne, przesiedlenia ludności i przemiany społeczno-ustrojowe. Prezentuje poszczególne kategorie ludności, które zasiedliły Ziemie Zachodnie i Północne, pod względem demograficznym, kulturowym i językowym. Wskazuje na sytuację ludności autochtonicznej i jej rolę w procesie integracyjnym. Analizuje przyczyny i uwarunkowania zmian o charakterze ogólnopaństwowym, lokalnym i indywidualnym. Porusza zagadnienie definicji terminu integracja językowa i ewolucji tego pojęcia. Przedstawia rozwój metodologii i dokonania badawcze.
The British-Irish Border in the Context of Brexit
2020
Molecular cloning and characterization of the complementary DNA coding for the B-chain of murine Clq
1989
AbstractcDNA clones coding for the B-chain of murine Clq were isolated from a mouse macrophage library. The characterized clones include the total coding region plus a leader sequence. High homology was found with human Clq B-chain in the coding region (81%). Northern blot analysis of total RNA from different tissues of Balb/c mice showed one band of approximately 1.2 kb. The highest signal was found in RNA preparations of thioglycolate-activated peritoneal macrophages. The probe also hybridized with mRNA from spleen, thymus and heart. Extremely weak signals were found in liver, kidney, lung and intestine tissues.
The L-glutamate transporters GLAST (EAAT1) and GLT-1 (EAAT2): expression and regulation in rat lactating mammary gland.
1999
The Na(+)-dependent L-glutamate transporters GLAST (EAAT1) and GLT-1 (EAAT2), were expressed in rat lactating mammary gland, but EAAC1 (EAAT3) was not. GLT-1 expression in rat lactating mammary gland was constant in all the physiological situations studied; however, the GLAST expression is under tight regulation. Fasting for 24 h decreased the GLAST expression which returned to control values after refeeding. Weaning for 24 h produced a decrease in GLAST expression through a mechanism independent of prolactin deficiency. Resuckling for 6 h returned the expression of this transporter to control values. There is a correlation between the levels of GLAST (mRNA and protein) and the in vivo upta…
Uniform response of c-raf expression to differentiation induction and inhibition of proliferation in a rat rhabdomyosarcoma cell line
1990
The clonal rat rhabdomyosarcoma cell line BA-HAN-1C is composed of proliferating mononuclear cells, some of which spontaneously fuse to terminally differentiated myotube-like giant cells. Both the induction of differentiation by retinoic acid (RA) and by sodium butyrate (NaBut), as well as the inhibition of proliferation by fetal calf serum (FCS)-depleted medium uniformly resulted in the same effects. There was a significant (p less than 0.001) inhibition of proliferation and induction of cellular differentiation, as evidenced by a significant (p less than 0.05) increase in creatine kinase activity. Furthermore, after exposure to RA-supplemented or FCS-depleted medium, a significant (p less…
Hormonal and nutritional control of L‐carnitine uptake in myoblastic C2C12 cells
2008
L-Carnitine plays an important role in skeletal muscle bioenergetics, and its bioavailability and thus its import may be crucial for muscle function. We studied the effect of thyroid hormone, insulin, and iron overload, hormones and nutrients known to alter muscle metabolism, on L-carnitine import into C2C12 cells. We report here L-carnitine uptake is increased by thyroid hormones and decreased by iron. Insulin was found to be ineffective in altering the L-carnitine uptake.
Increased mRNAs for procollagens and key regulating enzymes in rat skeletal muscle following downhill running.
1999
The purpose of the study was to investigate pre-translational regulation of collagen expression after a single bout of exercise. We analysed steady-state messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) levels for collagen types I, III and IV, alpha- and beta-subunits of prolyl 4-hydroxylase and lysyl oxidase (enzymes modifying procollagen chains), and enzyme activity of prolyl 4-hydroxylase from rat soleus muscle (MS) and the red parts of quadriceps femoris muscle (MQF) after 12 h and after 1, 2, 4, 7 and 14 days of downhill (-13.5 degrees ) treadmill running at a speed of 17 m.min-1 for 130 min. Histological and biochemical assays revealed exercise-induced muscle damage in MQF but not MS. Steady-state m…
Dietary cholate increases plasma levels of apolipoprotein B in mice by posttranscriptional mechanisms
2001
To induce atherogenesis in mice, a high fat (HF) diet is supplemented with cholic acid (CA), which increases apoB-containing particles and lower apoA-I-containing particles. HF diet without CA increases levels of both HDL and LDL, suggesting that CA may be responsible for the elevation of LDL and lowering of HDL. The mechanism of dietary CA-induced lowering of apoA-I-containing particles has recently been reported. In this study, we examined the mechanism of CA- and HF-induced elevation of apoB-containing lipoproteins in mice. Mice were fed the following four diets: control chow (C), high fat high cholesterol, (HF), control and 0.5% cholate (CA), and HF + CA. Dietary CA increased the plasma…
