”Mikä on ku sä meet metässä pam pam pam pam pam” : S2-oppilaiden selittämisstrategiat Arvaa sana -pelissä
2018
Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellaan suomea toisena kielenä opiskelevien oppilaiden Arvaa sana -pelissä käyttämiä sanan selittämisstrategioita. Arvaa sana -peli on Niilo Mäki Instituutin sekä Lukumummi ja -vaari toiminnan yhteistyössä kehittämä opetuskäyttöön tarkoitettu peli. Aihe on ajankohtainen ja tärkeä, sillä S2-oppilaiden määrä kouluissa kasvaa. Aineistona on kolme 20 minuutin mittaista videota oppilaiden pelituokioista ja niiden litteraatit. Tapaustutkimukseen osallistui pelikerroista riippuen neljästä viiteen 5 luokkalaista S2-oppilasta. Analyysikehikko on muodostettu Lavosen (2008) tutkielmaa mukaillen, jossa tarkastellaan myös sananselittämistä eri näkökulmasta. Tässä tutkielmassa se…
Load-dependent alpha suppression is related to working memory capacity for numbers
2022
Alpha suppression is proposed to reflect a surge in cortical excitability to enhance stimulus processing in working memory. The attenuated state of alpha might reflect the prioritisation of behaviourally relevant information, making it a proxy for working memory functioning. Despite the growing interest in utilising the advancement of brain-based measures to evaluate individuals’ cognitive processes, there was a lack of consistent evidence on the relationship between alpha suppression and working memory performance. To investigate whether interindividual differences in alpha suppression might be related to variability in working memory capacity, we recorded participants’ electroencephalogra…
Quantum fluctuations in superconducting nanostructures
2014
Modern nanofabrication technology enableTfabrication of very narrow quasi-1-dimensional superconducting nanowires demonstrating finite resistivity within the range of experimentally obtainable temperatures. The observations were reported in ∼10 nm nanowires of certain superconducting materials. The effect has been associated with quantum phase slip process - the particular manifestation of quantum fluctuations of the order p arameter. In titanium, the phenomenon can be observed already at dimensions ∼35 nm where the fabrication is well reproducible and the dimensions of samples can be characterized with high accuracy. We have performed systematic study of the size dependence of transport pr…

Coexistence of hidden attractors and multistability in counterexamples to the Kalman conjecture
2019
The Aizerman and Kalman conjectures played an important role in the theory of global stability for control systems and set two directions for its further development – the search and formulation of sufficient stability conditions, as well as the construction of counterexamples for these conjectures. From the computational perspective the latter problem is nontrivial, since the oscillations in counterexamples are hidden, i.e. their basin of attraction does not intersect with a small neighborhood of an equilibrium. Numerical calculation of initial data of such oscillations for their visualization is a challenging problem. Up to now all known counterexamples to the Kalman conjecture were const…
Tensor tympani muscle: strange chewing muscle
2007
This work seeks to alert medical and odontological staff to understanding and using interdisciplinary handling for detecting different pathologies’ common otic symptoms. It offers better tools for this shared symptomatology during therapy’s conservative phase. Tensor tympani muscle physiology and function in the middle ear have been veiled, even when their dysfunction and anatomical relationships may explain a group of confused otic symptoms during conventional clinical evaluation. Middle ear muscles share a common embryological and functional origin with chewing and facial muscles. This article emphasizes that these muscles share a functional neurological and anatomical dimension with the …
