Analysis of geometric operators on open manifolds: A groupoid approach

2001

The first five sections of this paper are a survey of algebras of pseudodifferential operators on groupoids. We thus review differentiable groupoids, the definition of pseudodifferential operators on groupoids, and some of their properties. We use then this background material to establish a few new results on these algebras, results that are useful for the analysis of geometric operators on non-compact manifolds and singular spaces. The first step is to establish that the geometric operators on groupoids are in our algebras. This then leads to criteria for the Fredholmness of geometric operators on suitable non-compact manifolds, as well as to an inductive procedure to study their essentia…

Local Spectral Theory

2018

In this chapter we shall introduce an important property, defined for bounded linear operators on complex Banach spaces, the so-called single-valued extension property (SVEP).

Sign-indefinite second order differential operators on finite metric graphs

2012

The question of self-adjoint realizations of sign-indefinite second order differential operators is discussed in terms of a model problem. Operators of the type $-\frac{d}{dx} \sgn (x) \frac{d}{dx}$ are generalized to finite, not necessarily compact, metric graphs. All self-adjoint realizations are parametrized using methods from extension theory. The spectral and scattering theory of the self-adjoint realizations are studied in detail.

Some spectral mapping theorems through local spectral theory

2004

The spectral mapping theorems for Browder spectrum and for semi-Browder spectra have been proved by several authors [14], [29] and [33], by using different methods. We shall employ a local spectral argument to establish these spectral mapping theorems, as well as, the spectral mapping theorem relative to some other classical spectra. We also prove that ifT orT* has the single-valued extension property some of the more important spectra originating from Fredholm theory coincide. This result is extended, always in the caseT orT* has the single valued extension property, tof(T), wheref is an analytic function defined on an open disc containing the spectrum ofT. In the last part we improve a re…

SOME RELATIONS BETWEEN BOUNDED BELOW ELLIPTIC OPERATORS AND STOCHASTIC ANALYSIS

2019

International audience; We apply Malliavin Calculus tools to the case of a bounded below elliptic rightinvariant Pseudodifferential operators on a Lie group. We give examples of bounded below pseudodifferential elliptic operators on R d by using the theory of Poisson process and the Garding inequality. In the two cases, there is no stochastic processes besides because the considered semi-groups do not preserve positivity.

Perturbed eigenvalue problems for the Robin p-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential

2020

AbstractWe consider a parametric nonlinear Robin problem driven by the negativep-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. The equation can be thought as a perturbation of the usual eigenvalue problem. We consider the case where the perturbation$$f(z,\cdot )$$f(z,·)is$$(p-1)$$(p-1)-sublinear and then the case where it is$$(p-1)$$(p-1)-superlinear but without satisfying the Ambrosetti–Rabinowitz condition. We establish existence and uniqueness or multiplicity of positive solutions for certain admissible range for the parameter$$\lambda \in {\mathbb {R}}$$λ∈Rwhich we specify exactly in terms of principal eigenvalue of the differential operator.

A description of pseudo-bosons in terms of nilpotent Lie algebras

2017

We show how the one-mode pseudo-bosonic ladder operators provide concrete examples of nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension five. It is the first time that an algebraic-geometric structure of this kind is observed in the context of pseudo-bosonic operators. Indeed we don't find the well known Heisenberg algebras, which are involved in several quantum dynamical systems, but different Lie algebras which may be decomposed in the sum of two abelian Lie algebras in a prescribed way. We introduce the notion of semidirect sum (of Lie algebras) for this scope and find that it describes very well the behaviour of pseudo-bosonic operators in many quantum models.

Neumann p-Laplacian problems with a reaction term on metric spaces

2020

We use a variational approach to study existence and regularity of solutions for a Neumann p-Laplacian problem with a reaction term on metric spaces equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a Poincare inequality. Trace theorems for functions with bounded variation are applied in the definition of the variational functional and minimizers are shown to satisfy De Giorgi type conditions.

Multiple solutions for nonlinear nonhomogeneous resonant coercive problems

2018

We consider a nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Dirichlet problem driven by the sum of a \begin{document}$p$\end{document} -Laplacian ( \begin{document}$2 ) and a Laplacian. The reaction term is a Caratheodory function \begin{document}$f(z,x)$\end{document} which is resonant with respect to the principal eigenvalue of ( \begin{document}$-\Delta_p,\, W^{1,p}_0(\Omega)$\end{document} ). Using variational methods combined with truncation and comparison techniques and Morse theory (critical groups) we prove the existence of three nontrivial smooth solutions all with sign information and under three different conditions concerning the behavior of \begin{document}$f(z,\cdot)$\end{document} near zero.
