Revealing non-classical behaviours in the oscillatory motion of a trapped ion
2003
The possibility of revealing non-classical behaviours in the dynamics of a trapped ion via measurements of the mean value of suitable operators is reported. In particular we focus on the manifestation known as `` Parity Effect\rq\rq which may be observed \emph{directly measuring} the expectation value of an appropriate correlation operator. The experimental feasibility of our proposal is discussed.
Exact Coulomb cutoff technique for supercell calculations in two dimensions
2009
We present a reciprocal space technique for the calculation of the Coulomb integral in two dimensions in systems with reduced periodicity, i.e., finite systems, or systems that are periodic only in one dimension. The technique consists in cutting off the long-range part of the interaction by modifying the expression for the Coulomb operator in reciprocal space. The physical result amounts in an effective screening of the spurious interactions originated by the presence of ghost periodic replicas of the system. This work extends a previous report [C. A. Rozzi et al., Phys. Rev. B 73, 205119 (2006)], where three-dimensional systems were considered. We show that the use of the cutoffs dramatic…
Supply chain modelling and analysis: an application of Latin square to a repeated coupling of non-linear differential equations
2011
In the last 50 years, Forrester’s system dynamics techniques have been adopted to analyse problems and find solutions for global supply chains. An important topic in production-inventory system modelling is the design of experiment. The aim of this paper is to present an application of a statistical technique of design of experiment, the Latin Square Design, to set a combination of input values for the initial-value problem of non-linear repeated coupling of first-order differential equations modelling a production-inventory system. This design permits to reduce the number of experiments while allowing statistical analysis for testing the significance of the studied parameters.
Portfolio diversification in the sovereign credit swap markets
2018
We develop models for portfolio diversification in the sovereign credit default swaps (CDS) markets and show that, despite literature findings that sovereign CDS spreads are affected by global factors, there is sufficient idiosyncratic risk to be diversified. However, we identify regime switching in the times series of CDS spreads and spread returns, and the optimal diversified strategies can be regime dependent. The developed models trade off the CVaR risk measure against expected return, consistently with the statistical properties of spreads. We consider three investment strategies suited for different CDS market participants: for investors with long positions, speculators that hold unco…
A bibliometric review of cryptocurrencies as a financial asset
2021
Within a decade, cryptocurrencies have captured significant attention. After Bitcoin's emergence in 2008, new cryptocurrencies started to enter the financial market. We use bibliometric analysis to...
Complexity traits and synchrony of cryptocurrencies price dynamics
2021
AbstractIn this study, we characterized the dynamics and analyzed the degree of synchronization of the time series of daily closing prices and volumes in US$ of three cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin, over the period September 1,2015–March 31, 2020. Time series were first mapped into a complex network by the horizontal visibility algorithm in order to revel the structure of their temporal characters and dynamics. Then, the synchrony of the time series was investigated to determine the possibility that the cryptocurrencies under study co-bubble simultaneously. Findings reveal similar complex structures for the three virtual currencies in terms of number and internal composit…

Evolution of the “knitting pattern” morphology in ABC triblock copolymers
1996
A new morphology of ternary ABC triblock copolymers is presented which results from the asymmetric interaction between a centre block (poly(ethylene-co-butene)) to different end blocks (polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate)). This morphology with the appearance of a “knitting pattern” can be described as an intermediate of a morphology of A, B and C lamellae and a morphology of A and C lamellae with B cylinders at the A/C interface.
ChemInform Abstract: Ta1.09Fe2.39Te4, a New Non-Stoichiometric Ternary Tantalum Telluride.
2010
Abstract Ta1.09Fe2.39Te4 was prepared by chemical transport from the elements in sealed silica tubes in a temperature gradient from 700 to 600 °C. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2/m with a = 6.162(2) A , b = 7.852(3) A , c = 7.250(3) A , β = 95.32(3)° and Z = 2 . Its structure can be derived from a hexagonal close packing of tellurium atoms with tantalum and iron atoms in octahedral voids and additional iron atoms in tetrahedral voids. The structure is closely related to the structures of MM'Te2 (MNb, Ta; M′Fe, Co, Ni) and MxFeγTe2 (MNb, x = 0.89, γ = 0.93; MTa, x = 0.77, γ = 0.90).
Producción de personas, reproducción de representaciones. Reflexiones sobre dos programas de capacitación en liderazgo
2020
The present paper addresses the question of the role Executive Education performs in the strengthening and reproduction of neoliberal ideology. It aims to critically reflect on the way selected contents and teaching activities operate jointly enabling or inhibiting certain perspectives regarding work in organizations. Two Leadership training programs are analyzed in this article, currently delivered by the two most prestigious business schools in Argentina: IAE Business School, and Torcuato Di Tella Business School. I begin with a general description of each one and proceed analyzing their educational proposals. Finally, the critical review reveals their consistency with a set of social rep…
