Southeast Asia as a Linguistic Area
2006
The languages belonging to the families of Mon-Khmer, Tai, Sinitic, Hmong-Mien, and Chamic (Malayo-Polynesian) spoken in mainland Southeast Asia share a considerable number of properties due to contact-induced convergence. General characteristics of the languages in this area are the lack of obligatory grammatical categories and the central role of pragmatics (indeterminateness), syllabic morphology, and relatively flexible correlations between word class and syntactic positions (versatility). The following properties will be described in some more detail: word order, numeral classifiers, cooccurrence patterns of the verb with coverbs, tense-aspect-modality markers and directional verbs, an…
The strange case of Pomar family: the dangers of roads
2012
Many studies conducted on risk-related issues use quantitative methods. Questionnaires or formal interviews are applied to subjects to construct some attitude or particular opinion about their sense of security. Since the risk-perception theory has been brought from cognitive psychology, there is a biased assumption to think this issue should use these survey types of techniques. In contrast, this article proposes that risk as social construal should be studied according to qualitative analyses that explore the connection between variables. That women perceive more risks than men can be a of second-order explanation, appropriate for opinion polls or managerial policies, but not scientific a…
Sport and Quality of Life
2022
Two routes to actorhood: Lexicalized potency to act and identification of the actor role
2015
The inference of causality is a crucial cognitive ability and language processing is no exception: recent research suggests that, across different languages, the human language comprehension system attempts to identify the primary causer of the state of affairs described (the “actor”) quickly and unambiguously (Bornkessel-Schlesewsky and Schlesewsky, 2009). This identification can take place verb-independently based on certain prominence cues (e.g., case, word order, animacy). Here, we present two experiments demonstrating that actor potential is also encoded at the level of individual nouns (a king is a better actor than a beggar). Experiment 1 collected ratings for 180 German nouns on 12 …
Theoretical study of nitrogen heterocyclics. IV. Molecular diagrams and carcinogenic activity of some naphthindoles
2010
Molecular-orbital calculations of structural static parameters (bond orders, π-electron densities and free valences) and dynamic indices (atom, ortho- and para-localization energies) are presented for a number of naphthindoles. The results are used to predict the chemical properties of the molecules. We have made a comparison of the carcinogenic inactivity and the static and dynamic complex indices used to characterize the K region in some benzindoles and these naphthindoles.
Chalcogen‐Bonding Interactions in Telluroether Heterocycles [Te(CH2)m]n(n=1–4;m=3–7)
2020
The Te⋅⋅⋅Te secondary bonding interactions (SBIs) in solid cyclic telluroethers were explored by preparing and structurally characterizing a series of [Te(CH2 )m ]n (n=1-4; m=3-7) species. The SBIs in 1,7-Te2 (CH2 )10 , 1,8-Te2 (CH2 )12 , 1,5,9-Te3 (CH2 )9 , 1,8,15-Te3 (CH2 )18 , 1,7,13,19-Te4 (CH2 )20 , 1,8,15,22-Te4 (CH2 )24 and 1,9,17,25-Te4 (CH2 )28 lead to tubular packing of the molecules, as has been observed previously for related thio- and selenoether rings. The nature of the intermolecular interactions was explored by solid-state PBE0-D3/pob-TZVP calculations involving periodic boundary conditions. The molecular packing in 1,7,13,19-Te4 (CH2 )20 , 1,8,15,22-Te4 (CH2 )24 and 1,9,17,…

The molecular packing and spatial correlations of polymers [CH 2 CR(COOR')] n (R= H, Me; R'= (CH 2 ) 11 + NMe 2 (CH 2 ) 3 SO 3 - ; (CH 2 ) 2 + N(Me)[(CH 2 ) 3 SO 3 - ][C 10 H 21 ]) are studied by means of X-ray analysis and conformational calculations. The analysis of the correlation functions and density distribution profiles suggest a double-layered molecular packing which is discussed for the three polymers investigated, with respect to their different chemical structures. Whereas the zwitterionic polymethacrylates studied exhibit liquid-like short-range order, the polyacrylate analog exhibits an ordered double-layered superstructure
Experimental and theoretical investigations of the contact ion pairs formed by reactions of the anions [(EPR2)2N]- (R = (i)Pr, (t)Bu; E = S, Se) with…

Reactions of the sodium salts [(EPR(2))(2)N]Na(TMEDA) (R = (i)Pr, (t)Bu; E = S, Se) with the iodide salts [(TePR(2))(2)N]I (R = (i)Pr, (t)Bu) in toluene produce the mixed-chalcogen systems [(EPR(2))(2)N][(TePR(2))(2)N] (6b, E = Se, R = (t)Bu; 6c, E = S, R = (t)Bu; 7b, E = Se, R = (i)Pr; 7c, E = S, R = (i)Pr). Compounds 6b, 6c, 7b, and 7c have been characterized in solution by variable-temperature multinuclear ((31)P, (77)Se, and (125)Te) NMR spectroscopy and in the solid state by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The structures are comprised of contact ion pairs linked by bonds between Te and S or Se atoms. For the tert-butyl derivatives 6b and 6c, the anionic half of the molecule is co…

Dynamics of entangled supramolecular polymer networks in presence of high-order associations of strong hydrogen bonding groups
2017
Dynamics of entangled polymer chains in the melt state are deliberately excluded in most of the studies on supramolecular polymer networks by utilizing nonentangled precursor chains. Relaxation of the system mainly depends on the dissociation of the associative groups in latter case and nonentangled chains deliver nothing to resist afterward. Conversely, in an entangled system, relaxation of polymer chains and dissociation of associative groups can occurred parallel. Supramolecular networks based on an entangled precursor polymer with different levels of strong associating ureidopyrimidinone (UPy) groups are synthesized to screen the corresponding effects on the dynamics of the system.
