The role of Private Equity-firms in the formation of strategic alliances

2014

This research analyses the role of Private Equity firms in the formation of strategic alliances within the field of the French Private Equity market. We start to provide evidence of its importance from new survey information, before offering an explanation of the organizational phenomenon. The study addresses the questions of how and why Private Equity firms act as relational intermediaries to help their portfolio companies form alliances. Both questions are investigated in the light of the Private Equity firms’ contribution to the value creation process that comes with alliance formation. Answers are provided by means of three jointly used theoretical frameworks: (1) mainstream theories (t…

Responsible Universities in Context

2019

AbstractIn this introductory chapter, the concept of the responsible university is introduced and put into context, first concerning other organisations and society at large, secondly in a historical perspective and thirdly related to policy initiatives across the globe. We also discuss how to implement this concept within the complex organisations that universities constitute. Lastly, we present some key features of the Nordic countries and introduce the empirical chapters of the book.

History in corporate social responsibility : Reviewing and setting an agenda

2018

The integration of historical reasoning and corporate social responsibility (CSR) theorising has recently received remarkable cross-disciplinary attention by business historians and CSR scholars. But has there been a meaningful interdisciplinary conversation? Motivated by this question that presumes significant limitations in the current integration, I survey existing research for the purpose of sketching and shaping historical CSR studies, ie an umbrella that brings together diverse approaches to history and CSR theorising. Drawing from the recent efforts to establish historical methodologies in organisation studies, I first reconcile discrepant disciplinary and field-level traditions to c…

Killing methods in Sicilian Mafia families

2019

The Sicilian Mafia is a criminal organisation founded in Sicily which is an island south of the Italian mainland in the Mediterranean Sea. Until recently, this organization was responsible for many murders and bombings. However, recently, based on the investigations known as the “Mare Nostrum” operation, the Supreme Court convicted 67 people and sent them to prison. Some defendants were found guilty of as many as 39 murders. This article reviews the forensic analysis that was used when investigating responsibility for these Mafia murders. Our review is based on the court documents and the ballistic investigations which were carried out to evaluate the reliability of “repented” or “pentiti”…

Impact de la proximité identitaire « publics-musée d'art » sur la fréquentation des lieux culturels : le cas des musées d’art

2017

The value that individuals attach to a cultural object can be explained, among other things, by their identity project of belonging to a group. This thesis proposes new strategic orientations for museums that increase museum attendance, change the relationship of the art museum with the public and attract other individuals. This research allowed the conceptualization of the proximity of the "public-art museum" identity, the confirmation of its dimensions and antecedents, and finally the analysis of the relationship between the "public-art museum" identity proximity and the art museum attendance. Moreover, the development of a "public-art museum" identity proximity scale, offers to broaden th…

Étude de la collaboration interprofessionnelle dans le secteur hospitalier français : le rôle des facteurs organisationnels

2022

In a troubled hospital context subject to many changes and constraints, inter-professional collaboration is a major asset in terms of adaptation, quality of care and managerial innovation. However, its levers remain to be specified and its implementation is complex. A review of the literature and an empirical survey lay the foundation for our research work, which has various objectives. First of all, it seeks to clarify the place of interprofessional collaboration in the hospital sector. Then he seeks to understand the influence of organizational factors on emerging states of collaboration. Employee shirking and overworking: modelling the unintended consequences of work organisation

2020

Underworking (i.e. shirking) and overworking of employees can have detrimental effects for the individual and the organisation. We develop a computational model to investigate how work structure, specifically the way in which managers distribute work tasks amongst employees, impacts work intensity and working time. The model draws on theories from economics, psychology and management, and on empirical observations. The simulations show that when managers correctly estimate task difficulty, but undervalue the employee’s competence, opportunities for shirking are provided due to longer deadlines. Similarly, if managers overvalue the employee’s competence, they set tighter deadlines leading to…

EDUCATION SUPPLY WITHIN UNIVERSITIES: AN ORGANIZATIONAL ARCHITECTURE THEORY ANALYSIS

2006

We analyzed through this thesis the decisional process within universities that drives to the educational supply. In order to do so, we used a stakeholder view. Whereas value distribution process has an effect on the production process, the organizational context emphasises a peculiar dimension. The integration of various stakeholders allows to measure individual contributions on the value creation process, through the decisional process. We sought to justify the existence of the mechanisms of control within the universities starting from the study of the decisional rights and from their alienability. Those concepts allow to define organizational architecture through three dimensions: the d…
