The Syrian refugee crisis, the 2019 riots, the 2020 Beirut port explosion, a deep institutional and financial crisis. In these last years Lebanon and Lebanese experienced extraordinary events which hugely aected both people and institutions. To discuss about the importance of the Arab and Islamic heritage kept in Jerusalem (Palestine) means to highlight its relevance as a part of a specific Palestinian legacy, as well as an insuppressible part of the Palestinian culture as a whole. It mainly consists of manuscripts (letters, edicts and documents of various kinds) and ancient volumes stored in some historical archives and libraries, but it also consists of the very places where this documentation has been preserved. Le système d'enseignement fut l'un des domaines les plus sensiblement affectés par le général procès de réforme que le gouvernement ottoman amorça vers la moitié du 19ème siècle. Dans ce fervent climat de modernisation, les anciennes madāris de Damas risquaient de disparaître, au détrimen de la culture de la communauté musulmane du Bilād al-Shām.
