Aspergillus strains belonging to section Nigri isolated during a two year survey in eight Sicilian vineyards located on the slopes of Mount Etna (Sicily, Italy) were analysed analyzed in order to characterize species responsible for ochratoxin A (OTA) contamination of grapes. The polyphasic approach permitted analysis of biodiversity of Aspergillus isolates in relation to their morphology, ochratoxigenicity and genetic variability. Background and aimOutcomes of AMI patients have substantially improved over the past 2 decades. Whether similar trends are observed in elderly (≥75 years of age) and younger patients has not been extensively studied.MethodsWe analysed one-year mortality of elderly vs younger patients in 4 nationwide French survey carried out 5 years apart from 1995 to 2010. Consecutive STEMI and NSTEMI patients (≤48 hours from onset) were recruited over one-month periods. Si photomultipliers for bio-sensing applications

In this paper, silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) are proposed as optical detectors for bio sensing. Optical transduction is the most used detection mechanism in many biosensor applications, such as DNA microarray and real-time polymerase chain reaction. The performances of a 25 pixels device used for both applications are studied. The results confirm that the SiPM is more sensitive than the traditionally employed detectors. In fact, it is able to experimentally detect 1 nM and 100 fM of fluorophore concentrations in dried samples and solutions, respectively. We present and discuss in details the detector configuration and its characterization as fluorescence detector for bio sensing.

In this paper we want to demonstrate that an optical physical medium is compatible with the second generation of PCI Express. The benefit introduced by the optical decoupling of a PCI Express endpoint is twofold: it allows for a geographical detachment of the device and it remains compliant with the usual PCI accesses to the legacy I/O and memory spaces. We propose two boards that can bridge the PCI Express protocol over optical fiber. One of the main problems related to the low performance of the organic solar cells (OSCs), concerns the low mobility of the materials constituting the heterojunction. Indeed, the poor charge transport in the active layer is the principal cause of a competition between separation and recombination of the photogenerated carriers. In this regard, a major obstacle to enhance OSCs efficiency is developing strategies to optimize the exciton dissociation and, consequently, the charge collection at the electrodes. Il genere Origano è estremamente diffuso nel bacino del Mediterraneo, con diverse specie presenti nel territorio siciliano. Il comprensorio dei Monti Nebrodi (Sicilia N-E), esteso per circa 200.000 ettari, è una delle aree siciliane in cui è presente la massima biodiversità vegetale; l'area è caratterizzato prevalentemente dalla presenza di Origanum heracleoticum, reperibile in ambienti ecologicamente anche assai diversificati.
