Cave bear occupation in Schwabenreith Cave, Austria, during the early last glacial: constraints from 230 Th/U‐dated speleothems

The cave bear was a prominent member of the Upper Pleistocene fauna in Eurasia. While breakthroughs were recently achieved with respect to its phylogeny using ancient DNA techniques, it is still challenging to date cave bear fossils beyond the radiocarbon age range. Without an accurate and precise chronological framework, however, key questions regarding the palaeoecology cannot be addressed, such as the extent to which large climate swings during the last glacial affected the habitat and possibly even conditioned the final extinction of this mammal. Economic Support during the COVID Crisis. Quantitative Easing and Lending Support Schemes in the UK

Abstract We investigate how UK bank business lending responded to the simultaneous use of quantitative easing, leverage ratio capital requirements, and government COVID lending support schemes. We find no evidence that the Brexit wave increased lending to nonfinancial businesses, compared to the previous waves, except for QE-banks subject to the UK leverage ratio, suggesting that the ratio incentivised QE-banks to lend to businesses. The government schemes helped expand lending especially to SMEs post the COVID wave, indicating that complementing QE with other credit easing programmes can reinforce its impact on lending to the real economy. Derivation of a Homogenized Two-Temperature Model from the Heat Equation

This work studies the heat equation in a two-phase material with spherical inclusions. Under some appropriate scaling on the size, volume fraction and heat capacity of the inclusions, we derive a coupled system of partial differential equations governing the evolution of the temperature of each phase at a macroscopic level of description. L’étude théorique des collisions entre atomes et molécules permet, grâce à la résolution d’état à état des simulations numériques basées sur la physique quantique, une description détaillée des mécanismes mis en jeu et contribue grandement à améliorer les modèles atmosphériques et astrophysiques. Dans cet article, après avoir présenté les méthodes de dynamique actuelles, nous donnons des exemples clés d’intérêt pour le milieu interstellaire, l’atmosphère terrestre et les milieux (ultra)froids, et présentons les défis majeurs à relever.

Le premier laser a fibre dope aux ions de terres rares fonctionna au tout debut des annees 60. Il fournissait quelques milliwatts autour de 1 μm. Les decades suivantes virent tres peu d'ameliorations tant du cote des laboratoires que du point de vue industriel. La derniere decennie (1995/2005) vit se concretiser la seconde revolution des lasers a fibres. Deja kilowatt en continu, ils atteignent desormais les 10 13 watts/cm 2 avec des impulsions de la centaine de femtoseconde. Lors de cette presentation nous passerons en revue les potentialites des lasers a fibre. The purpose of this work is to identify which skills are always present among the training objectives of the Degree Courses in Speech Therapy, and which instead become "specific" for our profession. Controlled turbulence regime of electron cyclotron resonance ion source for improved multicharged ion performance

Fundamental studies of excitation and non-linear evolution of kinetic instabilities of strongly nonequlibrium hot plasmas confined in open magnetic traps suggest new opportunities for fine-tuning of conventional electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) ion sources. These devices are widely used for the production of particle beams of high charge state ions. Operating the ion source in controlled turbulence regime allows increasing the absorbed power density and therefore the volumetric plasma energy content in the dense part of the discharge surrounded by the ECR surface, which leads to enhanced beam currents of high charge state ions.
