Subnational mapping of HIV incidence and mortality among individuals aged 15-49 years in sub-Saharan Africa, 2000-18: a modelling study

2021

Background. High-resolution estimates of HIV burden across space and time provide an important tool for tracking and monitoring the progress of prevention and control efforts and assist with improving the precision and efficiency of targeting efforts. We aimed to assess HIV incidence and HIV mortality for all second-level administrative units across sub-Saharan Africa. Methods. In this modelling study, we developed a framework that used the geographically specific HIV prevalence data collected in seroprevalence surveys and antenatal care clinics to train a model that estimates HIV incidence and mortality among individuals aged 15–49 years. We used a model-based geostatistical framework to e…

High prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in pets from COVID-19+ households

2020

AbstractIn a survey of household cats and dogs of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients, we found a high seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, ranging from 21% to 53%, depending on the positivity criteria chosen. Seropositivity was significantly greater among pets from COVID-19+ households compared to those with owners of unknown status. Our results highlight the potential role of pets in the spread of the epidemic.

Aktuelle Entwicklungen und Perspektiven in der Diagnostik und Therapie von Harninkontinenz und Genitalsenkung der Frau

2013

As a key area of gynaecology, urogynaecology has undergone impressive changes in the past few years. Together with the high prevalence of functional pelvic floor disorders, modern anaesthesia procedures and the introduction of new, innovative minimally invasive operation techniques have led to a dramatic increase in the number of operations for incontinence and prolapses. The increasingly subtle diagnostic options, such as, e. g., 2D and 3D sonography of the pelvic floor provide unambiguous findings and facilitate decision making. Tension-free vaginal slings in retro-pubic, trans-obturator or single-incision techniques show a high success rate with few complications and have almost complete…

Les drogodependències, una visió actualitzada

2013

Public opinion is not worried about drug dependence and other addictive disorders anymore. The changes in consumption patterns and the lack of visible situations related to drugs consumption have removed this problem from the top of the media’s agenda; however, we are able to establish that this is not a settled problem from the past, but quite the opposite. Despite all the prevention campaigns launched so far, the drugs consumption phenomenon prevails as well as the increase of the number of admissions in detoxification clinics for drug addicts. Therefore, it would be necessary to make a review of the history of drug dependence in order to find the key of the causes thereof nowadays, putti…
