High-throughput screening at the picoliter scale by combining Dip Pen Lithography with Inkjet printing

Drug screening is a complex, expensive and time consuming field consisting of diseasebased target identification in conjunction with high-throughput screening of chemical and natural product libraries. Conventional drug screening technology is usually time and reagent consuming (micro-, nanoliter scale) and is based on complex liquid handling robotics. In this work, we show a low-cost and miniaturized drug screening methodology based on direct bio-printing methodologies like Inkjet Printing and Dip Pen Lithography. We show the possibility to precisely deliver femtoliter scale droplets of protein targets by Dip Pen Lithography by finely tuning deposition parameters. This allows obtaining mic…

Preparation, Properties, and Reactivity of (Aminoferrocenyl)(ferrocenyl)carbene(pentacarbonyl)chromium(0) as Bulky Isolobal Trimetallo-amide

2015

Nucleophilic substitution of the ethoxy substituent in the Fischer carbene complex (ethoxy)(ferrocenyl)carbene(pentacarbonyl)chromium(0) (1) by ferrocenyl amide [Fc-NH]– [2-H]– gives the hetero trimetallic complex (aminoferrocenyl)(ferrocenyl)carbene (pentacarbonyl)chromium(0) (3). As the Cr(CO)5 fragment is isolobal to oxygen or sulfur 3 can be viewed as an isolobal metallo analogue to diferrocenylamide (Fc)(FcNH)C=O (4) and diferrocenylthioamide (Fc)(FcNH)C=S (5). The impact of the formal replacement of O/S by Cr(CO)5 in 3 is studied with respect to steric and electronic consequences as well as reactivity by spectroscopic, diffraction, electrochemical and theoretical methods.

Green synthesis of bromine by TiO2 heterogeneous photocatalysis and/or ozone: A kinetic study

2018

Abstract Elemental bromine is an industrially relevant compound traditionally produced from bromide ions by using chlorine as the oxidizing agent. Problems related to transportation and handling of the corrosive, expensive and toxic chlorine make green synthetic alternatives highly desirable. In this paper the green synthesis of bromine from bromide in aqueous solutions under mild conditions by means of TiO2 photocatalysis and/or ozonation has been investigated from a kinetic point of view. The ozonation in the absence of the photocatalyst follows a first order kinetic with respect to both ozone and bromide. The kinetics of the reactions in the presence of the photocatalyst has been describ…

The Poisson problem: A comparison between two approaches based on SPH method

2012

Abstract In this paper two approaches to solve the Poisson problem are presented and compared. The computational schemes are based on Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method which is able to perform an integral representation by means of a smoothing kernel function by involving domain particles in the discrete formulation. The first approach is derived by means of the variational formulation of the Poisson problem, while the second one is a direct differential method. Numerical examples on different domain geometries are implemented to verify and compare the proposed approaches; the computational efficiency of the developed methods is also studied.

1999

ABSTRACT In this paper we present an interfacial finite element designed for analysing planar interfaces in a three-dimensional approach. The element is derived from Hellinger-Reissner's mixed variational principle and takes into account the continuity of the displacement and of the transverse stress components through the interface. Stress analysis of a sandwich plate is made to assess the validity and the effectiveness of the element models, with comparisons to closed-form and numerical solutions.

Measurements of anterior chamber depth, white-to-white distance, anterior chamber angle, and pupil diameter using two Scheimpflug imaging devices.

2014

Purpose: To compare the ocular anterior chamber depth, white-to-white distance, anterior chamber angle, and pupil diameter, as measured with two different Scheimpflug imaging devices. Methods: This transversal study included 80 right eyes from 80 subjects aged from 20 to 40 years. Their spherical equivalents ranged from -4.25 to +1.00 diopters (D). Each eye's anterior chamber depth, white-to-white distance, anterior chamber angle, and pupil diameter, were measured for far vision using both the Galilei G4 (double Scheimpflug camera) and the Pentacam HR (single Scheimpflug camera) systems. Results: Mean anterior chamber depths were calculated as 3.12 ± 0.23 mm and 3.19 ± 0.24 mm when measured…

Advanced Monitoring Systems Based on Battery-Less Asset Tracking Modules Energized through RF Wireless Power Transfer

2020

Asset tracking involving accurate location and transportation data is highly suited to wireless sensor networks (WSNs) featuring battery-less nodes that can be deployed in virtually any environment and require little or no maintenance. In response to the growing demand for advanced battery-less sensor tag solutions, this article presents a system for identifying and monitoring the speeds of assets in a WSN with battery-less tags that receive all their operating energy through radio frequency (RF) wireless power transfer (WPT) architecture, and a unique measurement approach to generate time-domain speed readouts. The assessment includes performance characteristics and key features of a syste…
