Chemical Proteomics-Guided Identification of a Novel Biological Target of the Bioactive Neolignan Magnolol
2019
Understanding the recognition process between bioactive natural products and their specific cellular receptors is of key importance in the drug discovery process. In this outline, some potential targets of Magnolol, a natural bioactive compound, have been identified by proteomic approaches. Among them, Importin-β1 has been considered as the most relevant one. A direct binding between Magnolol and this nuclear chaperone has been confirmed by DARTS and molecular docking, while its influence on Importin-β1 translocation has been evaluated by in vitro assays.

Breast cancer proteomics: from research to clinical applications.
2008
The exponentially increasing volume of information extracted from genomic and proteomic applications on cancer, while providing new insights into molecular composition of cancer cells and tissues, imposes new challenges on data rationalization as a tool for clinically relevant biomarker discovery. Breast cancer represents the most frequent and potentially aggressive type of cancer and, moreover, it is one of the most enigmatic and poorly predictable in its evolution, likely because it includes several different forms that behave differently among patients. Current clinical parameters for breast cancer diagnosis and cure are: tumour size, axillary lymph node status, histological grading and …
Enterotoxinomics: The omic sciences in the study of staphylococcal toxins analyzed in food matrices
2013
Abstract Foodomics covers all several disciplines related with emerging working areas and relies on them to get a broader knowledge about food quality and food safety to improve consumer's well-being, health and confidence. Enterotoxin-producing S. aureus is one of the most common causes of food-borne human illness throughout the world. Because of the possible significance of these enterotoxins for public health and food safety, greater knowledge of their occurrence and an efficient means of screening at the protein level are needed. It is under these circumstances where Enterotoxinomic science has an important role. The term Enterotoxinomics refers to the omic sciences applied to enterotox…

Immuno-MALDI-MS in Human Plasma and on-Chip Biomarker Characterizations at the Femtomole Level
2012
Immuno-SPR-MS is the combination of immuno-sensors in biochip format with mass spectrometry. This association of instrumentation allows the detection and the quantification of proteins of interest by SPR and their molecular characterization by additional MS analysis. However, two major bottlenecks must be overcome for a wide diffusion of the SPR-MS analytical platform: (i) To warrant all the potentialities of MS, an enzymatic digestion step must be developed taking into account the spot formats on the biochip and (ii) the biological relevancy of such an analytical solution requires that biosensing must be performed in complex media. In this study, we developed a procedure for the detection …
