Dicopper(II) Metallacyclophanes with Electroswitchable Polymethyl-Substitutedpara-Phenylene Spacers
2013
Double-stranded anionic dinuclear copper(II) metallacyclic complexes of the paracyclophane type [Cu2L2]4- have been prepared by the CuII-mediated self-assembly of different para-phenylenebis(oxamato) bridging ligands with either zero-, one-, or four-electron-donating methyl substituents (L=N,N′-para- phenylenebis(oxamate) (ppba; 1), 2-methyl- N,N′-para-phenylenebis(oxamate) (Meppba; 2), and 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl- N,N′-para-phenylenebis(oxamate) (Me4ppba; 3)). These complexes have been isolated as their tetra-n-butylammonium (1 a-3 a), lithium(I) (1 b-3 b), and tetraphenylphosphonium salts (1 c-3 c). The X-ray crystal structures of 1 a and 3 c show a parallel-displaced π-stacked conformation w…

Interaction between heterobinuclear molecules and nature of the ground spin state in oximato-bridged [CuIIMII]2 bis-binuclear complexes (M=Cu, Ni, Mn…
1999
[EN] Two new heterobimetallic complexes [Cu(pdmg)Ni(Me-3[12]N-3)(CH3CH2OH)](ClO4)(2)(2) and [Cu(pdmg) Mn(bipy)(2)]-ClO4)(2) . H2O (3) (H(2)pdmg = 3,9-dimethyl-4,8-diazaundeca-3,8-diene-2 10-dione dioxime; Me-3[12]N-3 = 2,4,4-trimethyl-1,5,9-triazacyclododeca-1-ene; bipy = 2,2'-bipyridyl) have been prepared and characterized. The structure of 2 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. It consists of [Cu(pdmg)Ni(Me-3[12]N-3)(CH3CH2OH)](2+) cations and non-coordinated perchlorate anions. The [Cu(pdmg)(CH3CH2OH)] complex coordinates to the [Ni(Me-3[12]N-3)](2+) fragment to afford the binuclear unit doubly-bridged by oximato groups in cis arrangement. The coordination geo…
Long-term ozone exposure of potato: Free radical content and leaf injury analysed by Q-band ESR spectroscopy and image analysis
2008
This paper presents Q-band electron spin resonance (ESR) studies on free radicals (FR) generated in potato leaves exposed to different O(3) levels in open-top chambers (OTC), together with a quantitative study of the relationship between FR signal intensity and area of potato leaf damage. The advantages of Q-band when compared to X-band ESR spectroscopy are analysed, the main advantage being an absence of overlapping between Mn(II) and FR signals, allowing a quantitative study of FR signal intensity. This study also reports on a graphical method developed to quantitatively measure the damaged area on leaves caused by ozone exposure. Results indicate a direct relationship between FR signal i…
Experimental evidence for two different precursors of E’γ centers in silica
2004
Electron paramagnetic resonance measurements of concentration and line shape of centers induced by γ ray irradiation are presented for natural and synthetic commercial silica with different OH contents. Synthetic materials with OH content >200 ppm by weight show one line shape for all investigated doses. In contrast, the other materials show a different line shape at low irradiation doses. Differences are also observed in the concentration growth of the centers in synthetic wet materials and in the other materials. The results are interpreted as evidence of two centers distinguishable by their line shape and having different precursors.
Indications of Two Separate Relaxators in the Subphonon Region of Tetragonal BaTiO 3
1994
Significant discrepancies were generally reported in the dynamics of BaTiO3 between results deduced from various experimental techniques. Here dielectric and quasi-elastic light scattering measurements are investigated on high-quality BaTiO3 crystals. We show that two relaxators have to be introduced below the soft-phonon frequency. A complete dielectric dispersion in a very wide frequency range is thus achieved which consistently relies the high-frequency dielectric results and the Raman data. There is also a qualitative agreement between our two-relaxator model and the dynamics which were deduced some time ago from EPR experiments.
Crystal structure transformations induced by surface stresses in BaTiO3and BaTiO3@SiO2nanoparticles and ceramics
2015
International audience; Lattice structure transformations in nanopowders of ferroelectric BaTiO3 and BaTiO3@SiO2 core-shell nanostructured ceramics were studied by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) at the temperatures 120–450 K and particle size of 300 and 500 nm. NMR spectra of all studied samples in the paraelectric phase are identical to the spectra in bulk material indicating their perfect perovskite structure without visible influence of particle surface. However, we have found that surface of particles essentially influence the ferroelectric phase transitions detected by both NMR and EPR techniques. The strongest changes as compared to bulk mat…
Influence on the phase transitions of barium titanate of the manganese valency, introduced as a substituant in the titanium site
1991
Abstract A small amount of manganese introduced in BaTiO3 modifies strongly the vibrational and electronic properties of the pure compound. Dielectric response and EPR measurements are reported in order to study the influence of the manganese valency on the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition.
Multitechnique Analysis of the Hydration in Three Different Copper Paddle-Wheel Metal-Organic Frameworks
2019
The structural instability in a humid environment of the majority of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is a challenging obstacle for their industrial-scale development. Recently, two water-resistant MOFs have been synthetized, STAM-1 and STAM-17-OEt. They both contain copper paddle wheels, like the well-known water-sensitive HKUST-1, but different organic linkers. The crystal lattice of both the MOFs undergoes a phase transition upon interaction with water molecules. Their unusual flexibility allows the controlled breaking of some interpaddle wheel Cu-O interactions in the so-called crumple zones, with a mechanism called hemilability, which is considered to have a crucial role for the stabili…
An EPR investigation of the phase transitions and cooperative ordering phenomena of pentaamminecopper(II) polyhedra in Cu(NH3)5X2 [X=BF4, CIO4; Br]
1996
The results of powder and single-crystal EPR studies on Cu(NH3)5X2 compounds [X=BF4, CIO4; Br] give evidence that phase transitions from a cubic α-phase (g i ≃2.12) with an anti-K2PtCl6 type structure to low-temperature β-phases with reduced symmetry occur, which are induced by ordering processes of the vacancies □ of elongated [Cu(NH3)5□]2+ pseudo-octahedra. The type of order is crucially controlled, by the nature of the anion. In the case of the BF 4 − and ClO 4 − salts the large anions are structure-determining leading to a slightly disturbed antiferrodistortive order of the elongated CuIIN5 square pyramids atT c≃155 K and <130 K, respectively. The resulting pseudo-tetragonal β-structure…
