Platformed Interactions: How Social Media Platforms Relate to Candidate–Constituent Interaction During Finnish 2015 Election Campaigning
2020
Interaction between candidates and constituents via social media is a well-studied domain. The article takes this research further through a synthesis with platform studies, emerging scholarship that applies a critical perspective to the role of digital platforms in society. Examination of candidate–constituent interaction via Twitter and Facebook during the 2015 Finnish parliamentary elections revealed that the types of interaction differ between the two platforms: Facebook was used for formal campaigning and for praising and expressing support, while Twitter was utilized for information and for seeking and sharing opinions. An additional finding is that interaction approaches may be plat…
La politique coloniale de la IIe République : un assimilationnisme modéré
1998
The colonial policy of the second Republic demonstrate a moderate assimilationist policy. The ideas of Victor Schoelcher are influential, but not entirely adopted. Indeed, Schoelcher fought for the application of common law to the colonies. Although the emancipated slaves of the four old colonies are under the rule of juridical assimilation, the specific status of the natives remains unchanged. The constitution of 1848 institutes a représentation of the colonies before the National Assembly, proclaims the unity and indivisibility of the Republic and the sovereignty of France over its colonies. However, it adopts the principle of specific legislation for the later.

'It's like a Sentence before the Sentence' - Exploring the Pains and Possibilities of Waiting for Imprisonment
2020
This article explores the implications of the ‘imprisonment queue’ in Norway. Based on interview data (N = 200), we show that while interviewees waiting to serve their sentences enjoy certain benefits such as being able to prepare for or negotiate the terms of their imprisonment, they also suffer from uncertainty and powerlessness. The suspension of their lives while they wait hinders them in pursuing their ground projects, things that really matter to them. This peculiar phenomenon has not received attention from prison scholars generally, as well as scholars writing on Nordic Exceptionalism specifically. This article addresses that gap and poses questions about the relative mildness of th…
Akbarian Scepticism in Islam : Qūnawī's Sceptical Arguments from Relativity and Disagreement
2021
This study deals with the sceptical arguments by one of the most important figures in the philosophical Sufi tradition (the Akbarian school) and the foremost disciple of Ibn ʿArabī, Ṣadr al‐Dīn al‐Qūnawī. Though not a sceptic in the strict sense, Qūnawī employs sceptical arguments from relativity of rational knowledge and disagreement among philosophers to prove inefficacy of reason and rational procedures of knowledge in terms of achieving certain knowledge of metaphysical matters, namely of God and the ultimate principles of things. The paper questions Qūnawī's implicit assumption that, if there is disagreement on a proposition p, then p is relative and thus cannot provide certain knowled…
Religijne budowanie pokoju (religious peacebuilding): rola religii w rozwiązywaniu konfliktów
2016
In relation to the evolving nature of armed conflicts, the so-called „soft aspects” of peacebuilding have been gaining significance in the last few decades. The hitherto dominant perspective based on solid features of structural and institutional development is being extended in the direction of appreciation of one’s viewpoint, manner of perception by individuals and interpersonal relations. In this approach, subjects remaining in conflict (perceived both individually and as a group) are regarded as means and goals that make achievement of permanent peace possible. It is assumed that efficient peacebuilding is only possible through understanding the way of thinking and feeling by conflictin…
La représentation sociale de l'hygiène chez les professionnels de santé : Intérêt du recueil par entretien et de l'analyse discursive des opérateurs …
2009
This study deals with professional representations. The goal is to show the representation of hygiene by health care workers: Nurses (N) and Health Care Aides (HCA). Method follows the BSC (Bases Cognitive Schemes) procedure, explicative interviews substitute to the evaluation task. An analysis of associative words points out that for HCA hygiene is associated with acts linked with corporal hygiene and with two synonymous: no trace, no germ Discussion underlines the interest of this method for professional representations studies and nosocomial infections strength.
Mettre le développement du « pouvoir d’agir » au centre de l’intervention : une autre voie de prévention des risques psychosociaux ?
2015
Placing the “power to act” at the center of interventions : Another prevention of psychosocial risks ?A category of personnel highly exposed to psychosocial risks is the employees who have contact with the public. To ward off such risks, organizations have often adopted prevention plans. A recent survey conducted in a prefecture has shed light on the deviant effects of such plans, which do not necessarily make sense to employees and tend, ultimately, to deprive them of a sense of responsibility. As this survey shows, front-office employees and their supervisors are not passive. They cultivate the “psychological and social resources” needed to cope with difficult situations at work. These re…
Sleepless in Carver Country: Insomnia and Existential Crisis in Raymond Carver’s Short Fiction
2020
In Raymond Carver’s short fiction, the night is n…
Sports teams as complex adaptive systems: manipulating player numbers shapes behaviours during football small-sided games
2016
Small-sided and conditioned games (SSCGs) in sport have been modelled as complex adaptive systems. Research has shown that the relative space per player (RSP) formulated in SSCGs can impact on emergent tactical behaviours. In this study we adopted a systems orientation to analyse how different RSP values, obtained through manipulations of player numbers, influenced four measures of interpersonal coordination observed during performance in SSCGs. For this purpose we calculated positional data (GPS 15 Hz) from ten U-15 football players performing in three SSCGs varying in player numbers (3v3, 4v4 and 5v5). Key measures of SSCG system behaviours included values of (1) players’ dispersion, (2) …
