Which Test Artifacts Testing Service Providers should Reuse and How? Experiences from a Case Study in the Chinese ICT Sourcing Market
2011
Software testing service providers are facing new requirements to shorten service times, lower costs, and increase service customization and quality. Reuse of test artifacts is a possible solution that can help providers to meet the requirements because reuse can improve software quality and productivity. However, the extant literature does not explain in depth which test artifacts should be reused and how. This paper focuses on ICT-enabled sourcing of software testing services in the Chinese market to identify the most important reusable test artifacts. There are two reasons for this research. First, most Chinese service providers are small or medium-sized and have to overcome obstacles su…
A Technical Approach to the Energy Blockchain in Microgrids
2018
The present paper considers some technical issues related to the “energy blockchain” paradigm applied to microgrids. In particular, what appears from the study is that the superposition of energy transactions in a microgrid creates a variation of the power losses in all the branches of the microgrid. Traditional power losses allocation in distribution systems takes into account only generators while, in this paper, a real-time attribution of power losses to each transaction involving one generator and one load node is done by defining some suitable indices. Besides, the presence of P–V nodes increases the level of reactive flows and provides a more complex technical perspective. For this re…
Empowering Gypsies and Applied Anthropology
2011
Abstract This work focuses on the case study of the nomad camp of Palermo, in southern Italy, where Roma Cergara and Roma Xoraxane have been living for twenty-five years, in ghetto-like conditions. This camp represents a world outside the city, or rather a confined microcosm, without any interrelationship with the outside world. Moving ethnic minority groups from poverty to social inclusion represents a very difficult challenge. Moreover, since these communities are used to arrange themselves through an economy that is borderline between an underground economy and a subsistence economy, sometimes helped with assistance attitudes of external social actors, the way towards community action is…

The relation between emotional support, self-concept, and social functioning among school-aged children
2013
The study examined the relations between perceived emotional support from parents and peers, self-concept and social functioning among a sample of school-aged children. The study had three main purposes. Firstly, the study was aimed at evaluating the association between emotional support perceived from parents and peers, and self concept.
The “Visiting in italy” project: origins, organisation and prospects
2017
Visiting has its theoretical roots in the research of Lewin, and began in England in the early 2000s when the Community of Communities network, led by Rex Haigh, introduced this project structured on both peer- and self-review for monitoring the quality of treatment settings (for adults, minors, prisoners, etc.) and earning accreditation and financing from the National Health Service. The Italian Visiting project, which Mito&Realtà designed, proposed and formally introduced in 2010, has the aim of encouraging communities to get to know each other through a process of assessing therapeutic and structural factors for the purpose of better identifying TCs’ weaknesses and strengths and encourag…
2018
Political socialization is here interpreted as the acquisition of a symbolic code, a representation of the political world during a lifelong path. We adopt an interactive model of socialization between generations, with a view to considering plurality of belonging and of value orientations. Through political socialization, individuals familiarize themselves with the political system of their society, form their perception of politics and react to political phenomena. In the context of research on political socialization, «daily political life» appears to be underestimated. The research we present aims at exploring the process of political socialization at the micro-social level, observing i…
Apathy Towards the Integration of Usability Work: A Case of System Justification
2016
In this article we report from a case study of a software development organization and we study in particular the developers’ and product managers’ attitudes towards integrating usability work into software development. We offer explanations based on system justification theory illuminating what would-be integrators might be up against. The analysis shows how the developers only pay lip service to usability work and how they treat users superficially. It further shows how that leads to stereotyping of usability designers and users in order to preserve status quo, and how internalization of inequality between the developers and usability designers rationalizes the preservation of status quo.…
