International audience; The synthesis of functionalized porphyrins and their conjugates from meso-tetraarylporphyrins through the acylation and the oxidation of beta-aminoporphyrins was investigated. 2,3-Dioxochlorins were prepared by the oxidation of a variety of beta-aminoporphyrins and subsequently used in a condensation reaction with functionalized aromatic aldehydes and ammonium acetate to form beta-functionalized porphyrins bearing a fused imidazole ring. Under optimized experimental conditions both reactions tolerate various functional groups and afford the products in an appropriate overall yield. Treatment of de novo femoro-popliteal lesions with a new Drug Coated Balloon: early experience of a single Center in the first 50 patients

Angioplasty with drug-coated balloon (DCB) is an emerging and reliable method for the treatment of femoro-popliteal lesions. We report our experience with the Stellarex™ DCB in the first 50 patients. Methods - From July 2015 to November 2017, 50 patients (41 M, 9F), medium age (64 ± 7.4 year) were subject to 33 angioplasties (PTAs) for femoro-popliteal lesions with a paclitaxel-coated balloon (Stellarex™). Apoptosis is a well-defined cellular process in which a cell dies, characterized by cell shrinkage and DNA fragmentation. In parasites like Leishmania, the process of apoptosis-like cell death has been described. Moreover upon infection, the apoptotic-like population is essential for disease development, in part by silencing host phagocytes. Nevertheless, the exact mechanism of how apoptosis in unicellular organisms may support infectivity remains unclear. Cisplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy: neuroprotection by erythropoietin without affecting tumour growth

This study examined the dose-dependent efficacy of erythropoietin (EPO) for preventing and/or treating cisplatin (CDDP) induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CINP), and its influence on tumour treatment and growth. Rats received eight intraperitoneal (ip) injections of 2 mg/kg CDDP twice weekly. EPO co-administered (50 or 10 microg/kg ip, three times/week) had a dose-dependent effect, partially preventing CINP, but 0.5 microg/kg ip was not effective. The neuroprotective effect lasted at least 5 weeks after the last dose of EPO and CDDP. Esthesioneuroblastoma (ESTH) is a neuroepithelial-cell-derived neoplasm of the olfactory mucosa composed of homogeneous small round cells which contain neurosecretory granules. Melanin has been detected in such tumours only occasionally. Here we describe a new case of ESTH with divergent differentiation. The primary neoplasm was found in a 67 year-old female, involving the left nasal and maxillary sinus; she died of cerebral metastasis ten months after diagnosis.
