Da «Nina» a «Belisa»: contagi veneziani (1788-1794)
2008
Giovanni Paisiello's "Nina o sia La pazza per amore" was one of the greates operatic successes of the late Eighteenth Century. The article studies its circulation in the Venetian area, as well as the reactions it produced as documented in theorical writings and newspapers. Moreover, the model of mixed dramaturgy exemplified by "Nina", characterized by the alternation of spoken dialogues and musical numbers, influenced some Italian authors. "Belisa ossia La fedeltà riconosciuta" by Alessandro Pepoli and the German composer Peter von Winter is one of the most interesting results of this experimentation, and can be considered as a sort of new "Nina" for the Venetian stage.
2020
Taking inspiration from a recent book by Peter Burke, the article examines the contribution provided by exiles and expatriates to the formation of an open and pluralistic cultural identity in Europe. Thanks to the “distanciation” and to the “displacement of concepts”, exiles and expatriates exerted an influential role for the cross-fertilization of European scientific experience.

The limits of subtractive politics: Agamben and Rousseau’s inheritance
2020
The article critically engages with Giorgio Agamben’s reading of Rousseau in order to explore the affinities between the two authors’ subtractive approach to political subjectivation. In The Kingdom and the Glory. Agamben argues that Rousseau’s Social Contract reproduces, in a secularized manner, the providential paradigm of government, whose origins Agamben finds in early Christianity. This paradigm establishes a fictitious articulation between transcendent sovereignty and immanent government, presenting particular acts of government as emanating from general divine laws. We shall demonstrate that Rousseau was neither unaware of the problematic character of this paradigm nor did he venture…
Multi-rogue waves solutions: from the NLS to the KP-I equation
2013
Our discovery of multi-rogue wave (MRW) solutions in 2010 completely changed the viewpoint on the links between the theory of rogue waves and integrable systems, and helped explain many phenomena which were never understood before. It is enough to mention the famous Three Sister waves observed in oceans, the creation of a regular approach to studying higher Peregrine breathers, and the new understanding of 2 + 1 dimensional rogue waves via the NLS-KP correspondence. This article continues the study of the MRW solutions of the NLS equation and their links with the KP-I equation started in a previous series of articles (Dubard et al 2010 Eur. Phys. J. 185 247–58, Dubard and Matveev 2011 Natur…
