ESTIMATED AND EXPERIMENTAL FATIGUE LIVES OF 30CrNiMo8 STEEL UNDER IN-AND OUT-OF-PHASE COMBINED BENDING AND TORSION WITH VARIABLE AMPLITUDES

2007

Abstract— Calculated fatigue lives, based on three criteria for multiaxial random fatigue, were compared with lives obtained from tests on cylindrical specimens of 30CrNiMo8 steel subjected to in- and out-of-phase bending and torsion at variable amplitudes. In the chosen fatigue criteria the expected position of the fracture plane, determined from a variance method for the equivalent stress, were taken into account. The equivalent stress history was related to the rain flow method and fatigue damage was evaluated from the Palmgren–Miner hypothesis. It has been shown that the expected fatigue fracture planes agree with those determined by experiments. The most realistic estimations of fatigu…

Fatigue life estimation for 30CrNiMo8 steel under in- and out-of-phase combined bending and torsion with variable amplitudes

1996

Fatigue life successively calculated according to three criteria of multiaxial fatigue for randomly varying loading is compared with fatigue life obtained by Sanetra and Zenner in testing cylindrical specimens of 30CrNiMo8 steel by in- and out-of-phase bending and torsion with variable amplitudes. The position of the plane of fatigue fracture is determined using the variance method. The histories of equivalent stresses are schematically represented by the Monte Carlo method. Fatigue damage was computed using the Palmgren-Miner hypothesis. The most realistic estimates of fatigue life in the scatter band of the results with a factor of 3 are obtained on the basis of the criterion of maximum t…

Thiopeptide-Supported Lipid Layers on Solid Substrates

1997

The sequential layer-by-layer formation of peptide-supported bimolecular lipid membranes at solid supports is described. In the first step, thiol-derivatized peptide sequences of 5 and 7 amino acids are assembled on a Au substrate. After activation of their COOH-terminus phospholipid molecules (DMPE) are covalently attached via an amid bond to form a tethered monolayer on the Au electrode. The different preparation steps are analyzed by Fourier transform IR, X-ray reflectometry, and surface plasmon spectroscopy. The latter technique is then also used to on-line monitor at the solid/solution interface the formation of a bilayer by fusion of vesicles prepared from a fluid lipid mixture with a…

Occurrence of selected antibiotics and antiretroviral drugs in Nairobi River Basin, Kenya.

2015

In this paper, we investigated the occurrence of three antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim and ciprofloxacin) and three antiretroviral (lamivudine, nevirapine and zidovudine) drugs in the Nairobi River Basin, Kenya. The analytical procedure involved extraction using solid phase extraction followed by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (SPE-LC-ESI-MS/MS). In this study, 40 sites were selected for sampling, including 38 sites along the rivers and 2 wastewater treatment effluent sites. All the studied compounds were detected with sulfamethoxazole having the highest detection frequency of 97.5% and ciprofloxacin had the lowest at 60%. The results show…

Observation and Processing of Instantaneous Frequency Variations During Bearing Tests

2020

Laboratory experiments have been performed on medium sized roller bearings with two levels of artificial damage. Recordings of long time series from accelerometers at a wide range of different radial loads and rotation speeds has been performed. Probably due to non-perfect performance of the control systems for the rotational speed or frequency, significant fluctuations were observed at all rotation speeds. The highest relative variation was observed at the lowest rotational speeds. These variations were recorded using a rotary encoder, which allows order tracking of the vibration signal. In real life condition monitoring, tachometers or rotary encoders are not always present, this can be d…

Application of capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry for determining organic food contaminants and residues.

2008

Food contamination continues to be a serious problem around the world. Surveillance of chemical contaminants in foods is important not only for public health but also because of the negative economic impact of contamination. From the analytical perspective, analysis of contaminants in food is an extremely challenging area. There is a wide variety of questions, ranging from the quantification of extremely low levels of individual components to the detailed assessment and evaluation of the analytical technique possibilities. This review considers the applications of CE coupled to MS detection (CE-MS) for the analysis of organic contaminants in food. Analytical information on sample concentrat…

Probing Protein−Membrane Interactions Using Solid Supported Membranes

2011

International audience; Tethered bilayer lipid membranes have been used as a model system to mimic the interactions between the whey protein β-lactoglobulin and a lipid interface. The approach allowed for a detailed study of the lipid-protein interactions, the results being of possible importance in food and cosmetic applications. For such applications, lipid-protein interactions and the interfacial behavior are vital factors in controlling and manipulating process conditions such as emulsion stabilization and gelification. Lipid composition as well as the structural properties of the protein governed their interactions, which were probed by a combination of surface plasmon spectroscopy, ne…

Molecularly imprinted polymer solid phase extraction of fungicides from wine samples

2014

In order to preconcentrate iprodione fungicide in white wine samples, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) specific for iprodione were synthesized using two polymerization approaches: precipitation (MIPp) and bulk polymerization (MIPb). A comparison of the performance of the MIPs and the corresponding non-imprinted polymers (NIPs) was conducted in batch studies. In this case, the MIPp revealed better recognition properties toward iprodione in wine samples than the MIPb. The MIPp and MIPb were then used as sorbents on solid phase extraction cartridges (MISPEp and MISPEb consecutively) in order to pre-concentrate iprodione from white wine samples. The optimization of the MISPE elution step w…

Comparison of different sample treatments for the analysis of ochratoxin A in must, wine and beer by liquid chromatography.

2004

Abstract Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin produced by some species of Aspergillus and Penicillium verrucosum. It has been found in foods and feed all over the world. There is a great concern about OTA because it is nephrotoxic and probably, carcinogenic to humans. Most of analytical methods developed for OTA in wine, beer and other products are based on LC with fluorescence detection (LC–FLD). In the present work, various procedures for extraction and/or clean-up for determination of OTA in musts, wine and beer by LC–FLD were compared: (1) dilution with polyethylen glycol 8000 and NaHCO3 solution and clean-up an on immunoaffinity column (IAC); (2) extraction with chloroform and IAC clean-u…
