Effect of L-Histidine on the Survival of a T-Strain of Mycoplasma

1975

The addition of L-histidine to the growth medium prolongs the stationary phase and the survival of a T-strain of mycoplasma. Results of an experiment performed with 14 C-labeled urea demonstrate that the action of L-histidine is based on the retardation of the rise of pH.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of a D-ring-contracted analogue of lamellarin D

2017

A D-ring contracted analogue of the strongly cytotoxic marine pyrrole alkaloid lamellarin D was synthesized and investigated for its antiproliferative action towards a wild type and a multidrug resistant (MDR) cancer cell line. The compound was found to inhibit tumor cell growth at submicromolar concentrations and showed a lower relative resistance in the MDR cell line than the antitumor drug camptothecin to which lamellarin D shows cross resistance and with which lamellarin D shares the same binding site.

Antitumoural properties of benzannelated seven-membered 5-fluorouracil derivatives and related open analogues. Molecular markers for apoptosis and ce…

2005

Attention is increasingly being focussed on the cell cycle and apoptosis as potential targets for therapeutic intervention in cancer. We prepared a series of bioisosteric benzannelated seven-membered 5-FU O,N-acetals to test them against the MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line. Benzo-fused seven-membered O,O-acetals or their acyclic analogues led to the expected 5-FU O,N-acetals (or aminals), in addition to six- and 14-membered aminal structures and acyclic compounds. All the cyclic aminals provoked a G0/G1-phase cell cycle arrest, whereas Ftorafur, a known prodrug of 5-FU, and 1-[2-(2-hydroxymethyl-4-nitrophenoxy)-1-methoxyethyl]-5-fluorouracil (11) induced an S-phase cell cycle arrest. Al…

Dihydrocucurbitacin B Inhibits Delayed Type Hypersensitivity Reactions by Suppressing Lymphocyte Proliferation

2007

We have studied the effects of dihydrocucurbitacin B, a triterpene isolated from Cayaponia tayuya roots, on different models of delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH) in mice, as well as on T-lymphocyte proliferation and the mediators involved. In experiments with mice, dihydrocucurbitacin B inhibited the inflammatory reactions induced by oxazolone, dinitrofluorobenzene, and sheep red blood cells, reducing both the edema and cell infiltration. Moreover, the analysis of inflamed tissues showed that dihydrocucurbitacin B reduced the presence of the most relevant cytokines implicated in these processes, including interleukin-1 beta, interleukin-4, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha. Dihydrocucurbita…

Pyrrolo[2',3':3,4]cyclohepta[1,2-d][1,2]oxazoles, a New Class of Antimitotic Agents Active against Multiple Malignant Cell Types

2020

A new class of pyrrolo[2',3':3,4]cyclohepta[1,2-d][1,2]oxazoles was synthesized for the treatment of hyperproliferative pathologies, including neoplasms. The new compounds were screened in the 60 human cancer cell lines of the NCI drug screen and showed potent activity with GI50 values reaching the nanomolar level, with mean graph midpoints of 0.08-0.41 μM. All compounds were further tested on six lymphoma cell lines, and eight showed potent growth inhibitory effects with IC50 values lower than 500 nM. Mechanism of action studies showed the ability of the new [1,2]oxazoles to arrest cells in the G2/M phase in a concentration dependent manner and to induce apoptosis through the mitochondrial…

Formation of the C−S−H Layer during Early Hydration of Tricalcium Silicate Grains with Different Sizes

2005

Portland cement is a mixture of solid phases which all react with water. Tricalcium silicate (Ca3SiO5) is its main component and is often used in model systems to study cement hydration. It is generally recognized that setting and hardening of cement are due to the formation, by a dissolution-precipitation process, of a calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) on anhydrous grains during Ca3SiO5 hydration. The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of Ca3SiO5 particle size on the nucleation-growth process of C-S-H. An experimental study of the rate of hydration by using different grain sizes under controlled conditions has been performed. The experimental data have been compared with results o…

Ein schnelles on-line trennsystem unter anwendung von helium-jet- und zentrifugentechnik

1975

Abstract A centrifuge for continuous liquid-liquid phase separation is described. It is designed for rapid solvent extraction of short-lived radioactive isotopes (half-lives in the order of seconds). The centrifuge is characterized by simple construction and operation principle, easy handling, low cost, and a minimum hold-up time of less than five seconds (phase purity 99.0–99.9%). The on-line connection to a helium-jet transport system is described. Problems concerning the transfer of activities into a liquid phase from the helium-jet at atmospheric pressure are discussed.

Extraction of uranyl ions from aqueous solutions using silica-gel-bound macrocycles for alpha contaminated waste water treatment

2004

Abstract The efficiency for the extraction of U(VI) of new modified silica gels, namely N-tripropionate (or N-triacetate)-substituted tetraazamacrocycles-bound silica gels, has been studied. The effect of the nature of the ligand, the pH and the temperature was studied both in batch experiments as well as in continuous extraction. These silica gels are good candidates for the extraction of U(VI) when compared to a commercially available acid-type chelating resin. The breakthrough and regeneration tests showed that the total removal of U(VI) from a contaminated solution can be achieved by using a column packed with such tetraazamacrocycles-bound silica gels. Finally, the use of a modified si…

Development and validation of a pressurized liquid extraction liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method for perfluorinated compounds dete…

2009

Abstract This paper describes the development and validation of an analytical methodology to determine eight perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) in edible fish using pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) with water and solid-phase extraction (SPE) with an ion-exchanger as extraction and pre-concentration procedures, followed by liquid chromatography–quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometry (LC–QqLIT–MS). The rapidity and effectiveness of the proposed extraction procedure were compared with those most commonly used to isolate PFCs from fish (ion-pairing and alkaline digestion). The average recoveries of the different fish samples, spiked with the eight PFCs at three levels (the LOQ, 10 and 100…

Determination of bisphenol diglycidyl ether residues in canned foods by pressurized liquid extraction and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrome…

2005

Abstract A new confirmatory method for simultaneous determination of bisphenol diglycidyl ether residues (BADGE, BADGE·H2O, BADGE·2H2O, BADGE·H2O·HCl, BADGE·HCl, BADGE·2HCl, BFDGE and BFDGE·2HCl) from canned food has been developed. The proposed method includes extraction by pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) followed by liquid–liquid partition and purification by solid phase extraction (SPE). Several solvent systems and different operating conditions (time, temperature) have been investigated for PLE optimization. A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) coupled to atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation tandem mass spectrometry (APCI-MS–MS) method was developed …
