Study of Chromatographic Properties of Catecholamines and their Acidic Metabolites Using Novel Molecularly Imprinted Polymers as Stationary Phases

2021

Quantitative analysis of catecholamines and their acidic metabolites can provide vital information for diagnosis and treatment of various diseases (such as adrenal tumors). However, complicated purification protocols are usually required to isolate the analytes. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have attracted considerable attention as a method of selectively separating desired compounds from their matrix. Therefore, we propose a synthetic procedure for new molecularly imprinted sorbents that possess selective binding sites for both catecholamines and their acidic metabolites. The new polymer utilizes non-covalent and semi-covalent imprinting methods. The binding properties of MIPs were…

Comparison of microextraction procedures to determine pesticides in oranges by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

2002

A liquid chromatographic-mass spectrometric method has been developed for the determination of bitertanol, carbendazim, fenthion, flusilazole, hexythiazox, imidacloprid, methidathion, methiocarb, pyriproxyfen and trichlorfon. Two procedures, based on stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD), have been evaluated for the extraction of these compounds in oranges. Their respective advantages and disadvantages are also discussed. The recoveries obtained by MSPD ranged from 47 to 96% and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranged from 1 to 15%, whereas with the SBSE method the recoveries were between 8 and 84% and the RSDs between 4 and 16%. Although, the l…

Capillary electrophoresis for analyzing pesticides in fruits and vegetables using solid-phase extraction and stir-bar sorptive extraction.

2005

Two procedures based on solid-phase extraction (SPE) and stir-bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) in combination with micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC)--diode array detection (DAD) were compared for the simultaneous extraction of acrinathrin, bitertanol, cyproconazole, fludioxonil, flutriafol, myclobutanil, pyriproxyfen, and tebuconazole in lettuce, tomato, grape, and strawberry. Selectivity and resolution of the MEKC procedure were studied changing the pH and the molarity of the buffer, the type and the concentration of surfactant, and the methanol content in the mobile phase. A buffer consisting of 6 mM sodium tetraborate decahydrate with 75 mM of cholic acid sodium solution (pH 9.…

Improving the solid-phase extraction of “quat” pesticides from water samples

1998

A novel strategy, based on the addition of a cationic surfactant, for preventing the interferences associated with a diminution in the efficacy of solid-phase extraction (SPE) with silica cartridges of diquat, paraquat and difenzoquat in water is developed. Conditions for extraction are optimised with respect to pH, cationic surfactant and its concentration. Humic acids, anionic surfactants, inorganic salts and other organic contaminants like pesticides, phenols, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls produce the studied interferences. The best performance is shown in the improvement of the "quats" recovery from waters with high levels of humic acids and anionic surf…

Critical study of and improvements in chromatographic methods for the analysis of type B trichothecenes

2001

Various analytical methods used in the analysis of type B trichothecenes (deoxynivalenol, nivalenol, 3- and 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol) in cereals were compared and optimised in this work. These methods use either GC-electron-capture detection (ECD) of trimethylsilyl, trifluoroacetyl and heptafluorobutyryl derivatives or HPLC with UV or photodiode array detection of analytes. A new HPLC procedure using fluorescence detection prior derivatisation with coumarin-3-carbonyl chloride has been also tested. Five extraction solvents and two solid-phase extraction cartridges (silica, Florisil) plus a especial clean-up column (MycoSep 225) were compared in order to obtain the best recovery of the mycoto…

Quantitative retention–structure and retention–activity relationships of barbiturates by micellar liquid chromatography

1998

Abstract Studies on the structural requirements of chromatographic surfaces to emulate in vitro the partitioning process in biomembranes are of great interest. The use of micellar mobile phases in RPLC modifies the hydrophobicity of the stationary phase and provides hydrophobic and electrostatic sites of interaction as a consequence of the adsorption of surfactant monomers to the chromatographic surface. Modified stationary phases in MLC could be structurally similar to biomembranes, but thorough studies are necessary to confirm this. In this paper we focus our attention on barbiturates. The influence of the nature and concentration of the surfactant (Brij 35, SDS and CTAB) and the mobile p…

Solid-Phase Extraction of Organochlorine Pesticides from Water Samples

1990

Abstract A procedure for the accumulation of organochiorine pesticides by reversed-phase adsorption on octadecylsilica glass microcolumns was used for the isolation and concentration from spiked distilled and natural waters. The pesticides were eluted from the octadecylsilica with light petroleum, and analyzed by gas chromatography using an electron capture detector. The average recovery was over 90% in spiked water samples at 0.1 ng/ml. The performance of the octadecylsilica when applied to the analysis of water samples were compared with the Rodier and the APHA solvent extraction methods.

Effect of solvents on the selectivity of terbutylazine imprinted polymer sorbents used in solid-phase extraction

2002

A solid-phase extraction sample preparation method using a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) selective for the triazine type pesticide terbutylazine has been developed. The method involves preconcentration from large volumes of water samples on a C18 disk coupled to selective clean-up on the MIP. The method has been optimised by studying the recovery and retention of terbutylazine and some other structurally related triazine derivates as a function of the selective washing solvent used. The effect of the water content of the selective washing solvent was also investigated on the recovery of the MIP. River water samples were analysed with the coupled technique, and efficient clean-up of th…

Pressurized liquid extraction of organic contaminants in environmental and food samples

2015

Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) is an automated technique that uses elevated temperature and pressure to achieve exhaustive extraction from solid matrices, so reducing solvent consumption and enhancing sample throughput when compared with traditional procedures. Hence, it can be considered an environment-friendly technique, generating small volumes of waste and reducing costs and time. This review focuses on application of this green technique to the analysis of organic contaminants in food and environmental matrices for monitoring purposes. We examine fundamentals and key aspects of the development of a PLE method, including pressurized hot-water extraction, together with some relevant…
