1992
Maurice Carrez, Public Opinion in the region of Sancey and Belvoir (the Doubs department) during the French Revolution : an interpretive essay. As in a few other places in the France of 1793, several small-scaled Vendees took place in the villages of the former barony of Belvoir, which included the canton of Sancey in the Doubs department in 1790. Avoiding classifications that tend to simplify the actual situations, the author demonstrates that the counter-revolutionary behavior covered a number of intense local conflicts beginning as early as 1789 during the movement against feudal lordships and which became struggles of rivalry between the catholics and the patriots from 1791 on. However,…

Metropolises stability vs. change
2003
In everyday language and even in some scientific work, the term “metropolis” evokes nothing more than a very large city, a focus for all that is good — and bad — about urban life. The vast literature on metropolises and metropolization, especially in Europe over the last 20 years, shows that things are anything but straightforward. Population alone is probably not a necessary condition and obviously not a sufficient condition to characterize a metropolis. Somany phenomena are associated with this term that, like Lacour (1999), we may wonder whether this diversity is evidence of just how rich or just how poor the concept is. Producing a meaningful definition is indeed a challenge (...)

Construction engineering and natural philosophy: the work by Gabriel Lamé
1995
We find Lame again, an other pupill of the “Ecole polytechnique” who considers again the analogy between the catenary and the thin vault stable under its own weight He improve the famous work of Coulomb who applies the theory of maximis and minimis to Architecture. Le scientific biography that follows shows a scientist who has been interrested in cristallography, elastic mediums, optics and heat, electricity and was convinced of the existence of a unitary theory in which an elastic ether would play a central role.
From real-life experience to map. Using landscape as a tool for decentralized urban planning
2010
International audience; The large diffusion of GIS is greatly improving the capacities of territorial analysis; yet these tools are increasing the weight of cartographic representations and the gap between the everyday's space and the space of town planning projects. GIS are certainly essential tools, but they require a reflection about their territorial effects. The maps of "intervisibility" which are produced this way are difficult to understand and address the issue of mediation. We propose to contribute to the reflection through experiments conducted in France. We successively used maps and photos within the framework of town planning projects; we are now able to propose a protocol whic…
