Problem-Based Learning in Professional Studies from the Physiotherapy Students’ Perspective

The aim of the study was to investigate how physiotherapy students using a problem-based learning approach develop into experts during higher education, and answers the question: How do physiotherapy students at bachelor’s level understand the problem-based learning approach while learning to become professionals? PBL is examined using interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) of longitudinal data written by 15 voluntary students from two different higher education institutions and collected during 3.5 years. Este documento presenta la experiencia de aprendizaje servicio (ApS) realizada durante el curso 2013-14 en el Grado de Maestro/a de Educación Infantil en la Universitat Jaume I (Castellón, España). En ella el alumnado universitario debía planificar y realizar sesiones de juegos motrices y de expresión corporal para niños y niñas con diversidad funcional. Nuestro objetivo se centró en comprobar el impacto de la aplicación del programa de ApS sobre el alumnado universitario, tanto a nivel académico como personal. It is important to understand students’ motivation regarding physical activity to investigate the global issue physical inactivity. Based on the self-determination theory (SDT: Ryan & Deci, 2002), which is one of the most important frameworks in explaining motivation, students need to be emotionally satisfied in order to put effort towards a certain goal.
